Ok the ongoing saga with DD's hunger for books.  She is reading 6 grades above her grade level.  She has just finished the Insurgent/Divergent books.  We need more recommendations!  HELP!!!!!!

I will defer to flan. But, it never hurts to pick up some of the Classics to read. How about Animal Farm and some other great classics?

Try: Maggie Stiefvater...Scorpio Races was my favorite. Another series is: Shiver, Linger & Forever (I forget the order).

Mike Mullins has written Ashfall, about the eruption of Yellowstone. I think there are 2 others in the series.

I like Neil Gaiman's books as well.

Has she read Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children?

We saw those at the library the other day.  Maybe that is the next series.  Thanks!, but keep them coming.  She reads about 6 books a month.  She is also quite mature for her age, well intellectually anyway.

I would love to have her read classics.  She tends to turn her nose up at them. Maybe in a couple of years.

I would love for her to read the Illiad and Homer, but those books are best read when you have an instructor that can lead you through the language.

Get a reading list for the grade level she reads at. Use it as a guide.

The lunar Chronicles. Now that sounds like something DD would be interested in. I do want to get her a collection of a series for Christmas. I have stopped buying books for the most part and insist on the library. But she does look to have books of her own too.

They are based on familiar fairy tales...with a twist!

She'll like them.

IKWTDS, that's crazy because SS is almost done reading that same series! He's the same age as your DD. Reads way above his grade level too. His mom got us the required reading list from his school for the next few years. We've been getting him some of the books off it. I don't have any suggestions though. He's kind of picky about what he reads. He won't read anything with a strong female lead.

How about some Ray Bradbury? They're kinda classic, but not dry.
The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit. The Illustrated Man. The Martian Chronicles. etc.

I almost suggested those, but I haven't read them, so I wasn't sure if they would appeal to a tween today.

Has he tried the Charlie Bone series? Or Peter and the Starcatchers?

And Gary Paulsen is an excellent writer.

Amen to that! Salary is poor, but the benefits are good.

DD says she became a librarian she could read the new books before anyone else.

She doesn't work with the kids often, she spends most of her days in the computer department.

He hasn't. I just got him interested in reading over the summer.  His family just doesn't enjoy books.  Unlike my family where there are books EVERYWHERE!

This is a tricky situation, and one I've been asked about many times.

If you push too hard, it can make things worse.

Does he like Minecraft? There is a series of novels based on the game.

Jon Sciezska has a series called "Guys Read." They are collections of short stories, on various topics: sports, humor, scary stuff. He also has a website with the same name, which includes more recommendations.

"I Survived," by Lauren Tarshis, is also very popular.

Big Nate is another popular series, in both chapter-book format & graphic novel format.
