It took awhile for it to grow on me. I had to learn what it was about first. At first, I thought it was just a sob song but once I found the lyrics and really studied them, it hit me what the song was about.

Same thing with Blessings (Laura Story). I know the song only resonated with me because of where I was in life when I first heard it. But, there's also a back story to that song too and it took on more meaning for me when I found out the back story.

I understand what it means. It just seems like the point is being made with a sledgehammer.

flan

Exactly. I get it. I just don't like it much.

My favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night, no contest.

I love love love O Holy Night. Especially the version by Evanescence on my Wow! Christmas CD.

 Mine too!

Ooooh! I thought of one.

"Never Been Gone," by Carly Simon. That was the song I played at DH1's funeral.

I celebrate the Winter Solstice.  I even have been known to put up pagan trees.

So you enjoy the Christmas season without all the Godly overtones. Sounds hypocritical to me.

It's hypocritical to spend time with family and friends, to get together to enjoy good food and each other?
OK., if you say so.

Oh, that's right. I should just stay home and watch Star Trek.

(That I won't enjoy, because I have no feelings.)

No, it's hypocritical to say you don't believe in God yet you celebrate the holiday for the Son of God that you don't believe in. You don't see it though because you WANT to celebrate.

Fine. I'll celebrate the births of Dionysus, Attis, Osiris and Mithras.

Birthdays on December 25th, had three wise men predicting their births, born of virgins, had 12 disciples, nailed to trees and crosses, died and came back to life to ensure humanity's salvation.

All predate Jesus by centuries and centuries.

Happy now?

So EVERY SINGLE PERSON who celebrates Christmas is required to be a Christian?

That's unbelievable...

I celebrate it too.  It's none of your business who celebrates what.  Christmas means different things to different people.

I celebrate Saint Patricks day and I'm not Irish. I make the traditional Corned beef and cabbage every year. Does that make me a hypocrite?

It is my understanding, and I could be wrong about this, but we don't really know when the birth of Jesus took place, but it was most likely in summer months. For many years, there were more Pagans than Christians, though Christianity was on the rise. Emperor Constantine was a Christian and Romans began to accept Christianity. The people were used to celebrating a Pagan festival on December 25th, which I believe honored the Sun God. It was easier for pagans to make the transition to Christianity by celebrating not a Sun God, but the Son of God, on December 25th. Thus, we have Christmas.

Yes. Yes, it does.

I participate in the Carifete, and I'm not even black or from the Caribbean. I should be shot at dawn.

You know what's funny about that meme? Most of that is absolutely true of Christians. Christians do not get brownie points. So doing those things does nothing to further their path into Heaven. We do it out of love for our brothers and sisters.

Or that it is a Bible verse, twisted by the devil and used by the faithless so they can feel better about their choices?
