I will make it for you, if you ask.  But I prefer the can, no berries, just jelly.  Topped with whipped cream.

I have never tried whipped cream on cranberry sauce, but I will this year. Sounds yummy.

I have this gag reflex that just  comes out even reading about anything jelly(o)ish with any kind of whipped cream.  Like when people mix jello and cool whip I have to fight not to barf.  I don't know why.  Honestly.  I just can't stand it.  I'm not saying it's bad, I know a lot of people that love it, it's just I don't.

Okay, now you are officially weird. biggrin

I embrace and accept that as long as you don't try to stuff jello whipped cream crap down my throat!

Now you are giving my ideas. biggrin

Who is stuffing their bird and who is not? I've never "not" stuffed it, but this year I was thinking maybe I'll be different...

I used to stuff my bird but in recent years stopped.  And when DH fry's it, it's impossible anyway!  biggrin

DN is so stressing.  I think DH may need to go have a talk with her b/f.  Her b/f sent her on a mission.  She has to go buy all new dishes, new pots and pans, new bake ware, and a card table and chairs.  DH and I offered to give her some of our disposable pans.  We bought a bunch at Sam's.  We told her she could have them to make cooking easier.  Her b/f wants a REAL Thanksgiving apparently.  We even offered to let her borrow some of our regular pans but noooooooo.  I think he wants her to make a good impression.  Also, this is the first time we will meet his dad.  His dad has never come to holidays before so I think he may be trying to impress him.

I never stuff the bird either. Always make it in a side dish, by itself.

We don't like the greasy taste dressing takes on while in the bird.

We have our dinner on Wednesday night, freeing up everyone to go to in laws on Thursday. I'm planning smoked turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs, rolls, pecan pie, Italian cream cheese cake and I'm going to attempt an old fashioned apple stack cake.

I got an apple pie and a pumpkin pie today. I think they're going to be hard to find later.

This thread is YUM! Making my mouth water. I never thought of doing my own cranberry sauce. I may try that next year. DH already bought some cranberry sauce. My menu:

Turkey - I oven roast in a bag. I have never brined or fried it. I lightly stuff it. The stuffing tends to get mushy and everyone seems to prefer their stuffing less mushy so I just lightly stuff it.

Mashed potatoes - When my kids were little, I remember DD bringing in a trophy saying that mashed potatoes should get an award, lol. Who doesn't love those. Nothing fancy there though. Boil them, mash them, salt, pepper and butter. I keep it simple.

Buttered Noodles - My mom always prepared those and everyone loves their noodles. Gotta have them. I toss them with butter, salt, pepper and celery seed. My mom made the tastiest foods and seriously , the only spices i ever sauce her use were salt, pepper and celery seed, lol.

Stuffing - DD and I make a simple homemade stuffing. We make it the night before. Toss the bread with butter, salt, freshly chopped onion, etc and let it sit over night in the fridge. The smell of it fills the house. Yum.

Sides will be green beans and corn. I used to do corn on the cob but DD has braces so will just be doing regular corn.

Parkerhouse rolls - Planning to make the Pioneer Women's version of those this year.

Cranberry sauce

Sparkling Welch's Grape - The kids really enjoy that and now that is a tradition.

Top it off with homemade pumpkin pie, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream and call it a day.

I think I want corn too. I got canned light cherry pie filling and crust if I need another dessert. No energy to make pumpkin AND peach pie but I doctor the pie filling
I bought pre diced onion and celery at the store tonight. Hope I didn't get it too soo!

I am also making cranberrie sauce. I use lite orange juice, truvia baking mix, ginger, vanilla and cinnamon. Maybe some orange zest.  My former neighbor loves my cranberrie sauce.

Mmmmmm want thanksgiving food now!

I made the cranberry sauce today and put it up in my mason jars. It's ready to go. I made a double batch but I don't think I'll have leftovers.

I baked my three pumpkins, peeled them, chunked them, pureed them, and made three pies. I need to make one more. DH wants to eat one now. They're so pretty looking! I will make the other one tomorrow and probably put some of the filling in a pryex dish for DS so there's no crust on his. I also need to make the pumpkin cheesecake.

I don't mind the whole berry cranberry sauce... I've never really understood the jellied sort... although I suppose it's akin to, say, mint jelly with lamb. (not that I'm a fan of that either, but it kind of puts it in context for me)

I am right on track with my cooking. Cranberry sauce made and jarred. Three pumpkin pies made. Pumpkin cheesecake made. Mashed sweet potatoes made and in the freezer. Tomorrow we will dig out both coolers. In the big cooler we will put all the hot items and the turkey. Tomorrow we are going to fill the small cooler up with drinks. Thursday morning we will put ice in it. Wednesday I will make two casseroles and then Thursday I cook them while DH is cooking the turkey's. Everything is in order.

DN has stressed so hard over this. They went to his grandma's assisted living place to get the recipe for dressing. Grandma didn't know the EXACT recipe of course but walked them through it. She really wanted to come to Thanksgiving but she's in a wheelchair and DN lives up two flights of stairs. B/F made her go buy new dishes and cooking stuff. Every day is a new catastrophic phone call. I hope she survives this.

We are going to my moms. We will have turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, hash brown casserole, creamed corn, Brussels sprouts & cranberry sauce. I think we are having cheese cake for dessert since none of us but my mom like pumpkin pie. There will most likely also be fruit salad. I personally don't like much of the traditional Thanksgiving meal. I look forward to the leftover turkey sandwich on a Kaiser roll with mayo, tomatoes, pickles & pepper. I swear one of these years I am not going to wait for leftovers, just assemble it for my dinner but I like the turkey to be cold.

My list is very specific and over 50 lines long.  I wouldn't trust a delivery service with this one...G offered to go, but I have to have JUST the right stuff.  So, off I go.

I mean hey, this will be the third time in almost  two years I have gone by myself.  I Think I Can I Think I Can...

Good luck!  I don't think I've been in a grocery store in years.  My delivery service is amazing.  The only issue is if something is out of stock & I don't know until I get the order.  I marked mine as no substitutes because on some things I am picky.

Yep, it IS stressful.  But she will survive and something will go wrong and she will cry.  We're all ready for this.  This is their first Thanksgiving in their new home.  I have been calling her a lot trying to coordinate things with her as I'm not used to having to transport food.  She told me last night I had surpassed my allotted number of maternal phone calls.

Wine.  My mom doesn't have hard liquor & the year I brought my own vodka she sort of gave me the eye.  Plus I have to drive a half hour home.  But there is plenty of wine.

I think I'll rub Cognac under the skin this year. That used to be the only way I seasoned a turkey but the last few years I've tried other things. The Cognac was always delicious.

OK, pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake in the oven. Check. Turkey washed and seasoned with cut up carrots, onions, celery and garlic stuffed inside and seasoned with poultry seasoning, etc. Veggie tray ready. Bread torn and on a tray to dry for stuffing.
