Thai waitress working legally in the US is left a 'disgusting' racist message on restaurant receipt and no tip by male diner

A California community has rallied around a waitress that was left a 'disgusting' racist message and no tip on a receipt recently by a diner, who was apparently trying to make some kind of political statement.

The man had a meal by himself at the Bamboo Thai Bistro in Redondo Beach last week and was served by a Thai waitress, who has a visa to work in the US.

But when it came to paying the bill, the man - named on the receipt as Jason Paul Naglich - left no gratuity, instead writing: 'Tip for U.S. citizens only.'

A 15 per cent tip on his bill of $22.84 would have been $3.43.

The man left the restaurant alone, completely unaware of the social media storm that was set to follow him.

After the receipt was posted online with his full name, Naglich has been inundated with hate for his actions, while locals have shown out in support of the woman he left empty-handed.

According to NBC Los Angeles, one person left a 50 per cent tip in an effort to, in his words, 'make up for the poor attitude of that other gentleman'.

Another left a $10 bill and a note reading: 'Sorry you had to deal with that sad man.'

Others denounced the man as a racist and apologized to the woman - who is in her 30s - that she had to witness it.

Restaurant manager Adison Karnsomport said the support for her has been overwhelming.

'They're really generous and, like, actually reaching out to us,' Karnsomport told NBC. 

'We don't really need the publicity, you know? Yeah, we're doing really well.'

Coworkers described the waitress and a hard worker and extremely friendly.

The restaurant said they have not heard from the man who wrote the message, despite the publicity.
