Can't say I've had bad houseguests. When they come up to the cottage, they bring plenty of food and booze, help cook and clean up, and leave cases of beer and fancy cheeses when they depart.

My parents had terrible houseguests once. It was my dad's step mother and her daughter (she was 50 at the time, not a child). They were in town for a funeral and needed a place to stay in a hurry. My parents offered their spare room. While my mom and dad were at work, they drank all the top shelf liquor (2-3 bottles in 4 days), ran up a $60 long distance phone bill (it's not the money, it's the principle), logged onto the computer in my parents' bedroom (without asking) and printed so much that they used a whole ream of paper and all the color ink, spilled perfume on the bedspread, and left without offering to replace anything. On the way out, step mother turned to my mother and complained that the towells my mother gave them to use were the same color.

Nightmare.

Nope. They called a few months later with another "emergency" and asked if my mom knew where they could stay - fishing for an invitation. My mom said she heard the Marriott had nice rooms! Lol

In my whole married life we have never had a house guest. So don't have to worry about it.

Once when I was younger a childhood friend came to visit. I have to admit I was on a budget so that was a bit of a problem. She ate all day long. At night she would go out to the bar's with my next door neighbor. She was white and came from a very wealthy family. My next door neighbor was Mexican and a trashman for the county. Before she went home she married him. Last time I heard they had moved to the barrio. LOL Maybe this belongs on the bad choices thread?

No bad houseguest but what about a bad vacation guest?

My mom decided to invited one of Caitlyn's friends on vacation with us. Didn't discuss it with Caitlyn before hand. Just up and asked her.

I knew from the jump it was a bad idea. I went to school with the girls mom. I dated her stepfather. (Before they met) I knew how they were.

Nice people, just not our people. If you know what I mean.

Day one. Was supposed to pick her up at noon. She wasn't ready till 1.

Got to the resort, first thing she did was run off and didn't say anything.

She made comments about everything and everyone. Not nice comments.

She was asked what kinds of food she liked for weeks before the trip. She said anything. Then proceeded to let us know nothing we brought was good. She didn't like anything we had. Seriously. Took her to the grocery store after we got settled to get foods she liked. Said she thought we would eat out every meal.

The times we did go out to eat, she complained about that too.

She had to have complete privacy while talking to her online boyfriend. Uh, honey, you're sharing a two bedroom apartment with 7 people. You don't get a lot of privacy. Go out to the balcony I guess.

Oh my gosh. It just went on and on.

Caitlyn was never so happy to get away from a friend in her life.

It sounds like your Mom, stuck her nose in, where it didn't need to be, lily.

Caitlyn didn't need to get away from her friend.

Caitlyn, needed a Grandma, who wouldn't invite a friend of hers, without asking if this would be a good idea, first.  no

Sorry, no stories to tell here.  Guests at my apartment are very rare, as it is very small and too cramped for more than one person.  It is also not ADA-compliant because the building is very old.

As for me being a bad houseguest, I never have been.  I have been a thoughtful and considerate houseguest in the past.  When I am invited to or decide to visit others, I book a hotel.  When people invite me to come and visit and don't offer their place to stay at, I book a hotel.  I figure they have reasons for not letting me stay with them, such as other family staying over, etc, otherwise they would offer, especially when I am a godparent to their chidren.  Of course, airfare, hotel and car rental does tend to be quite pricy, so I have not visited others in awhile.  I have also not been invited to visit friends in the past two years, so there's that.  biggrin
