My answer to the "what about the 1st grader who's momma died last week?" question:
Let him bring in pictures of her while she was still alive. He can say "This is what my momma looked like before she died." Then he could even say what she died of (if he knows). He doesn't need to bring in a picture of her corpse, and he shouldn't do it.
Please don't use logic in this thread!

But if there is no picture of his brother alive? He is still his brother...

Hell just take the kids in for an autopsy and let them ride with EMS and pickup gunshot victims. Then send them to the brothel for some sex ed. What the hell.
My kids have seen autopsies. At 10, they were taken to the morgue by their school. They arent stupid. ...
You gave everyone permission to spank your kids. I'm not surprised they went to the morgue. Do you want a medal or what?
Yep...my kids are far beyond most of these other grown kids...
Yes, your kids are far superior to other kids and Hillary herself would tremble and quake in your presence.
Yes, it's nice when you can share live, smiling pictures of your children. Unfortunately, the family in the OP didn't get that option with their baby - the only pictures they have are those. So, there was no choice in taking pictures of a live sibling. That's all he had.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Pictures of dead family members are OK I guess. But please... Keep it to family members only that have expressed they want to see it. I don't want to see it, and I certainly don't want my kid in school to be forced to look at it. Just ew.

Exactly.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
I don't understand your position 04. Do you really think that you get to decide that it is OK for someone else's child to look at pics of dead corpses? That kid can look at those pics all he wants. They can blow them up and plaster them all over their house. Fine and dandy. But, for someone who doesn't like the State ramming their agenda down your throat, i have no idea how you can stand in support of this.

So what? That has NOTHING to do with school at all. Doesn't entitle you to make a prezy about it at school.

If the assignment is about his family and those are the only pictures he has of his sibling, yes, it damn well does.

This is where a little sensitivity and common sense would have gone a long ways. The teacher should have contacted the parents privately, and gently, and asked they remove the photo, but perhaps offered up an alternative, perhaps the boy could have drawn a picture of his angle baby brother, I don't know.
And the parents should have realized that a photo of a dead baby really has no place in a child's classroom.
Both parties are at fault here.

The teacher may have handled it better--but the parents have no common sense.
