We have some sincerely ungrateful, unpatriotic people that need to leave this country and never look back. People DIED to give us the freedoms we have. They fled from the countries you think are better to establish a country that is different and celebrates individual freedoms. People that understood the dangers and hardships of an overbearing government and wanted to assure that we would not suffer from such tyranny again. So take your ungrateful and dishonorable opinions of what those men died for and shove it up your ass.
If you're referring to the pic I posted, calling that narrow-minded is calling yourself Unamerican.
It also means that you're perfectly fine with people messing with your country, liberty, family, etc. And, to that, I use your favorite emoticon ...
No, there are many definitions of "American."
The nation started as a melting pot, remember?

It absolutely did not....

Wow, you just called flan ignorant. And here I thought name calling was against the rules. Not really surprised though.

The U.S. did start as a "melting pot" as flan327 correctly pointed out. It's supposed to still be one, with the acceptance of diversity making this a better place than other places where conformity is a requirement.

No. It didn't start as a melting pot. The melting pot came well after this nation was founded.

What the hell is wrong with you? You know better. Do NOT do this again. I'm done. This is your last warning.

We USED to be friends.
Are there ANY Mods here?
flan
At midnight? Usually not. If that's an issue for you, look and see if a mod is on the board before posting anything. Otherwise, deal with it like a grown up until one gets here, the mods are not at your beck and call.

I disagree. It's more inclusive now than it was back at the founding but we were a mix then as well. Puritans, Quakers, Evangelicals, Protestants, Jews, non-believers, Pagans. There were ex-Britaish, ex-Germans, ex-French, ex-Italians, ex-Scandanavians, et cetera. The people may have been mostly white that were in the original pot melting together to form one nation but they were still pretty diverse.
When the first settlers and foundi g fathers described themselves, they called themselves Americans.
Not something-American.
They were unified as one.
Now, everyone has to be "special", unique.
And what you end up with is a broken nation.
This is America.
Not something-America.

The term melting pot has nothing to do with simply being a mix of people aka a heterogenous society. It has to do with homogenization with that society aka assimilating into American society. It means adopting American ways, values, and mores.
The term 'melting pot' didn't enter the common lexicon in this country until the early 1900s.
Yup. Just like Repos are racists, bigots, homophobes, xenophobes, colonialists, elder haters who want to push granny over the cliff, poison the water, let the Earth die, whatever. Dems have been tossing those charges at Repos for a long , long time. If you disagree with Obama's policies, well then you are a Racist, blah, blah.

I understand and agree that the term didn't exist back at the formation of our country. That doesn't mean the concept didn't exist. It just means they didn't have a name for it.
And back then they (the mostly white people, admittedly) assimilated into a society that became America. That's how the idea of a "melting pot" got started, even if they didn't know what to call it.

They did not assimilate. They stole the land from the American Indians. If they assimilated, we would have a lot of American Indian traditions. We would not have the culture we have today.
You misread me. I didn't say they assimilated into the existing Native American culture. I said they assimilated into a society that became America. One single society that they all "melted" into. Like a melting pot, you could say.

obama has consistently throughout his tenure worked to undermine or circumvent nearly every standing institution/organization in our country: the constitution itself, the congress, the judiciary, the military, the insurance industry, the social services network, the schools/education system, the law enforcement system, the telecommunication systems, the church(es), the immigration system, the elections system, the banking system, the domestic ( and international ) intelligence systems, the international trade import/export systems, our international diplomatic system--without mentioning how these efforts and his ( and the liberal's ) policies have divided and weakened/harmed the populace
he is without question the least qualified/least interested in the common welfare/least accountable person to ever hold the office--the sooner he is gone the better

Sigh. Obama said both those things. Putting it in a meme doesn't make it less so.
