Ok so I have a really good dishwasher. A Bosch. It is airtight when shut. The problem? Because it is airtight and thus no airflow, in between washings it stinks. Blech. I mean makes me gag. I try to keep it propped open slightly but it isn't enough.
Vent over for now. now that I have it running a load.
Run a cycle with vinegar. I've read that works. Never tried it myself though.
Yeah, I hear that but I can just do a quick rinse too. Just don't want to run it when I am not doing a real wash. The real wash gets rid of the smell. It is only when dirty dishes sit there for days that it starts stinking.
Mine is a Bosch, too. But, I run it every day, so I've never had it start to smell.
Letting it sit for days, with dirty dishes in it, sounds like most of the problem.
Mine has a "Half Load" option. Does yours? Running smaller loads, more often, would probably do the trick.
The other thing I noticed with mine, IKWTDS, is crud builds up where the bottom of the dishwasher and the door, meet.
Open the door all the way, and peek in there. Do you have crud building up?
I just grab a wet paper towel, and wipe that down, every couple of weeks.
Just a couple of ideas. I hope they help.
One more idea I just thought of.
Mine has a trap at the bottom, just in front of the spray arm.
It collects bits of food that are too big to go through the grinder.
That is easy to take out and clean. I do mine every couple of months.
Yours probably has one too.
Check your instruction manual. It might have some other ideas that I have missed.

I so wish mine had a half load option. I rarely cook so I end up running a load of glasses, cat bowls & spoons every few days. My mom has a really cool dishwasher that has two drawers stacked. Each is it's own unit & they run separately. It was way to pricey for my budget though.
