Am so sorry to hear about your co-workers son, I can't imagine anything worse then losing a child. NJN, you should join flan. Just think of all the trouble you two will get into or should I say fun.... I ordered Kona coffee for Christmas presents and I do hope they get here soon.

 I don't think it is as cute as some parents think it is to name kids and spell it weird. Not all names look cute spelled differently.

I want to come to Hawaii too. I am going to be a VSS and invite myself.

I had to fire someone today, which normally doesn't bother me at all. This one was different. She is being abused at home and it's drastically effecting how she performs her job duties. She can't concentrate, she is making major mistakes, she is clinging onto her coworkers and socializing too much, and she is neglecting half of her responsibilities. We tried to get her help, she wouldn't take it, wouldn't listen. Refuses to help herself at all. Finally the written warnings added up and she earned a termination. And at the holidays - even stone cold me had a tough time with it afterwards.

MM, Don't beat yourself up about it. You did everything you could to give her a chance.  I understand she is abused at home but until she is ready to help herself there isn't much for anyone to do.

That is tough MM. I've had to fire people too and it stinks.

All of Dd's gifts are wrapped! Just need a pair of PJs and a couple of more stocking stuffers and I am done. Need to send something else to DS, thinking some GC's or maybe Banana Republic sweaters. Their styles are so classic and stylish.

And not much luck on finding the size box I need. I did find one that I could try to re do the top on and "make the box" it is just 1/2 inch shy of being tall enough. I just may have to.

Thanks. The logical side of me totally understands that I did what I had to do. The emotional side understands too, but still thinks it was pretty crappy.

Half of my team is relieved she is gone - they were sick of picking up her slack. But they are saying "what took you so long?" Like it's easy to fire someone. The other half thinks I am a terrible person and doesn't understand why she had to go. I don't need to be popular, so I don't care what they think. It's just frustrating.

Awww. This is sort of a crappy Friday of sorts, isn't it. I vote we all pack up and go share Flan's spare room. Sending love to those of you who have lost people you care about and strength to MM who had to take action with someone who really needed - but wouldn't take - the action that was offered earlier.

My Christmas shopping is done. Just need to wrap one more SS thing and get it in the mail on Monday, then finish wrapping one more Christmas Eve friend party thing and then, well, go to the friend party after work on Christmas Eve.

For the family dinner in a week or so I'm doing a boardgame theme. I figure it's the safest. If we all have something to do, that we won't be fighting with each other! My parents are getting Settlers of Catan so that I can play it when I'm at their house instead of dominoes because dominoes got old when I was a kid. My bro and his girlfriend are actually getting their own set of dominoes because she's just discovered them and loves the game. The friends are getting Monopoly Junior for their family and then Exploding Kittens for Mom and Dad. They're trying to have a family boardgame night and like to have boardgame parties with non-kid evenings, so I figure I can continue the theme with them. I'm excited! I like boardgames too!

Home from the dentist. Root canal went fine. He said it was obvious the tooth had been dead for a while, said there was not a drop of blood the whole time. I go back the 30th to get a crown. Until then I have to be careful crewing on it. Sucks I have to watch what I eat over Christmas. But, good to get it taken care of.

He wrote me another zpack, just to be on the safe side. I go to pick it up and the chick at CVS tells me - very seriously - that my insurance will only cover 1 pack a month, do I still want it. I ask how much it is without my insurance, by her tone and expression I'm estimating about $400. $28. I almost laughed at her. Yes, I know $28 can be a lot to some people, but she looked like she had to give me the worst news ever.

I killed it at our white elephant/potluck today. I brought in a homemade chocolate pecan pie which everyone loved. I scored a bottle of white wine and really cool coloring book from the same person who did the fancy Ink Gardens one.

 LOL We called my allergy doctor.  If we use our Obamacare insurance for my allergy shots they are $75 a piece.  Two a week, every other week.  If we pay cash it's $16.50 total.
