Lol. And a lot of women kid themselves about how much they actually make. They did a special on Mary Kay recently and the women could tell you their 'sales' but not how much was actually profit (because they have to purchase everything themselves first). Which is telling, imo. How many people don't know how much money they make?
Was that the exposé that they showed on the air? Where women were willing to do anything to bust into the top echelons and win a pink car?
Evidently, they were buying tons of their own products and going into hock, stockpiling vast amounts of makeup they couldn't sell?
Yea. I think so. I don't remember what program it was on.
I really don't think about any of the things brought up here.
I understand some may.

When half the people you know are selling it, you get a bit burned out. Especially when they call you up to 'catch up' but are really just giving you a sales pitch, or when you think your going to a birthday/summer/holiday party only to find out its a sales party. Or when every time you get together they subtlety or aggressively try to talk you into selling it.
I've just realized they are a type of business I don't want to support.
That hasn't happened with me. Ever. With any of it.
Now I have had 100 school fund raisers shoved at me.
That's way more annoying to me.

The thing with products like Mary Kay or Avon vs that make up line or essential oils is that both Mary Kay and Avon have been around for decades. They are well established lines with a product people can trust. Which happens over time. When new MLM's come onto the market it takes a lot of time for people to get familiar with the product and like it. Because not everyone is going to use every product out there. So the new MLM's have to really hawk their products. Plexxus is one of the absolute worst. Our dental hygienist sells it. She is annoying when she goes on her sales pitch.
I don't wear make up so I never used Mary Kay or Avon for that. Mary Kay used to have a really good facial mask but they changed it and it isn't as good now. My mother once used it for a Halloween costume for me. I love Avon. But not for the make up. I love them for the home products and kid stuff they have.

I do. I remember going to some parties. I have never worn make up at any point in my life so I never really purchased tons of it.

They had a moistrurizer that had bees wax in it. I really liked it. It seemed everyone was having a party then it just ended. What I liked is the sales rep will take someone one at a time and place some kind of gel in your hand and a teaspoon of sugar. You rub your hands together and then rinse and then she would put a dab of their lotion and man your hands felt so soft. You can to the same thing with hand soap and hand crème and of course sugar.
I loved Jafra, too. It had staying power, and with my oily skin, that says a lot. I loved their violet palette eye shadow. This was the 80's, remember.

Oh yeah. I went to a party and they put on green eye shadow on me. I felt so pretty that I bought it. Came home and my husband looked at me and said he did not like it. They had a good exchange policy.

When I was younger EVERYONE I knew was selling Pamper Chef. It got to the point where we just did a monthly party and we were all selling it so we all just got together and ordered stuff. Their stuff is good but it's really pricey. Pampered Chef was one of the biggest MLM's ever.

My mom's cousin had a PC party. I was invited via FB. I picked out stuff for my mom to put in my Christmas basket. We have a few things from PC around the house. DH's ex got into it years ago. I think our garlic press is from there. It's lasted, so there's that.
If i get an invitation to one of those things, i throw it in the trash. I don't even "RSVP" because it's not a party. It's a sham and pretense of a party to try to sell you crap. No thanks.
