Well today we had my favorite weather ever. Thunder snow!!!! It's thundering and lightening AND snowing. It was awesome. It only lasted about 10 minutes and then the rain came. Boo!
I meant to just work until noon today. Stayed until 5. Urgh!
Tomorrow is Christmas dinner here at school! This year, since DD is a senior, I get to go! Typically it's just students and faculty. Parents of seniors are invited so I finally get to attend instead of having to stay home and eat chips and salsa with the dog on the couch. I love to dress up! I will post pics Friday - we are headed out with a bunch of faculty afterwards and it's probably going to be a late night Thursday.

I am not a Star Wars fan either. And I only joined the Geeks because I had no where else to go after the MM debacle.
It's been a semi bad day. But tonight figured out one of the issues I have at work. My Supervisor doesn't, refused to, send taskers out in an email so I have the written info, he is former Military and they are instructed to not put things in writing. I have a path forward; I will email him with what I think are the taskers and have him confirm. I see so much wrong about how things are managed in my PMO and I am going to try to change them. I am a good manager and know what works. They may hate, but eh, they already do.

IKWTDS, if it was semi bad, it was semi good.
MM, that dinner sounds fun.

Saw a wonderful example of parenting today. Mom with 5 boys all under 10. The youngest was around DS' age. Perfectly behaved, polite, cleaned up after themselves. I told the mom that I loved her example of parenting.

I feel for his wife. She is the sister of my pawpaw that passed a couple years ago. She is the only sibling left.

I just finished watching Nova. It was about honey badgers. Holy crap! Are they ever smart!
The handlers built an "escape-proof badger Alcatraz."
It took them less than a day to build tools to get out.
I think DD7 is getting strep throat again. At what point do they remove tonsils?
Oh that stinks. Hope she gets to feeling better soon.
I think it depends on the doctor and the child. I would push for it if I thought it would help. Why is she continuing to get strep? Is it because of allergies draining? My DN had an infected tonsil. They said there was an encapsulated area that kept breaking open and reinfecting her throat. I'd find out why he thinks she's getting it over and over.

Have you been seeing a ENT specialist?
It's usually like 3 in 3 months or something like that.
I had to push the issue with her regular pediatrician.
Getting the tonsils out doesn't mean no more strep.
Also, get the doctor to culture a swab.
Caitlyn kept getting strep again after her tonsils were out.
Finally force the pediatrician to send us back to the ENT.
They cultured it and it wasnt strep. It was staph.

I had chronic strep as a teen and occasionally as an adult. Removing my tonsils was never discussed. I wish it had been. I got an antibiotic-resistant infection in my tonsils in 2009 and they got removed in March 2009. Took me most of the year to recover. It was at least 6 months before I could eat chips and similar foods without pain.
Everyone is different but, for me, I have not had strep at all since having them out. I also haven't had many colds since having them out.
I would say, like FWM, if you're going to do it, do it now. The sooner the better.

That was exactly what happened to me chef. I was 29 when I had mine out. It took a good six months to be able to eat chips. My throat literally swelled shut after I had it done. Everything I drank came out my nose. It was horrible. BUT, no more strep.

We have only seen her pediatrician at this point. I haven't counted how many times she has had it, but it has been a lot. She just had it 6 weeks ago. We'll see in the morning if it is strep or not. She misses at least 2 days of school each time she gets it, and it adds up.

Are they doing those quick tests at the office?
If it has only been 6 weeks since the last one, and if this is positive, I'd insist on seeing an ENT.
I love our ENT.
He has been wonderful with my kids over the years.
(Not bad on the eyes either)

Not much older than me. I was 26. I was very thankful for the bottle of liquid hydrocodone. I kept it next to me and would take small sips - just enough to coat my throat when I tilted my head back. It hurt to talk so I wrote down anything I needed to say for a good three days. My dad was funny - I'd write something down, give it to him to read, and he'd write his response instead of speaking it.
That must've been scary to have your throat swell shut.

I was terrified. They had given me pain PILLS! Imagine that. I couldn't swallow water and they wanted me to swallow a pill! I had to get them to call in liquid medicine. I knew that if I couldn't get water down I'd dehydrate. I could still breathe through my nose but yeah, it was scary.

The antibiotic they gave me was in pill form. I crushed it up and stirred it into water. There was no way I was swallowing that thing whole!
I had a hard enough time getting my bc pill down and that thing is tiny. I can't imagine having to swallow a pain pill. Ouchie :(
I don't even know what it would take for her doc to recommend it, but I just don't think it's normal to get sick this often.
Tell him, nicely, you are concerned for her. Tell him you want a referral to an ENT. I don't know if your insurances requires a referral or if you can just find one on your own. I think at this point I would seek out a specialist. The specialist may say it's nothing but I would definitely push and ask questions. Your mom instinct is talking to you so listen.

Yea, the rapid strep test.
She probably never got rid of it completely. It was hiding there, waiting for a weak moment!

I don't know how that works. We have Tricare. Her ped is on base. But I will ask :)

Probably. I promise I always give her all the meds every day, until they are gone.
Well, seriously that's what happened to DN. She had an encapsulation in her throat. They said when they removed her tonsils one of them had an abscess and it was full of infection. They said it would drain periodically and infect her throat.

My cousin asked me to go shopping tonight. Said she'd buy me dinner for my birthday. We get to the restaurant and there are three of my other friends waiting to surprise me. I was so shocked, and touched. It's moments like this that I really see how far my life has come over the last couple years. I have friends. Real friends I get to go out with, laugh with, have fun with. And there is no one waiting to make me feel bad about enjoying my life. Life is good.
The most common symptoms of mono are:
•Fever, which may range from 101°F (38.3°C) to 104°F (40°C), and chills.
• Sore throat, often with white patches on the tonsils (which may look like strep throat).
• Swollen lymph nodes all over the body, especially the lymph nodes in the neck camera.gif.
•Swollen tonsils.
• Headache or body aches.
• Fatigue and a lack of energy.
•Loss of appetite.
•Pain in the upper left part of the abdomen, which may mean that the spleen camera.gif has become enlarged.
These symptoms usually get better in about 1 or 2 months.
And don't worry NAOW, there's a whole board of people here waiting to diagnose DD. :)

Thanks Welts. Those are all really similar to strep symptoms. I will ask.
It's not a test they do routinely. You have to ask. When my son was 6, he was sick all the time. I finally told the ER at the Children's Hospital that I'm not leaving until they did a test for mono. I was tired of being there every few weeks, with no discernible results.

Yep, he had strep and mono.
Good thinking. I will see how she feels in the morning and if she is really sick or not.

This is true. I'm a carrier. Always test positive.
