Welfare. Food stamps, medicaid, housing = no vote.
But unemployment, Social Security and disability = vote.
I think there is a difference in those.
These are just personal opinions.
But love the snarky swipes.
That's a convenient distinction for you.
Bless her little heart.

Personally, for myself... I would like to get rid of those voters that don't have an income. Bye! They don't need a college degree, but they need to be participating in the process. If you are contributing... you're in. If not... You're out!
Well, if we are cutting out people who shouldn't vote. How about anyone that hasn't graduated high school. Hell, gotten a college degree. And they had to do it with honors. Oh, and they have to have at least a cousin, let's say to the third degree, that is a direct descendant of a founding father.
Add in those that don't pay taxes. I don't think they deserve a vote. They vote stupid.
They might not be paying taxes because they are smart, though. Some people know how to work it.

Let me clarify. As long as they can put a number on the line of wages earned, I don't care how else they get around it. If you haven't earned any wages, you don't vote.
What about retirement? They're technically not "earning".

Who cares what old people think, anyway? They have voted enough. And half the retirees are women - so they wouldn't get to vote, anyway.
True. A lot of those old people will die before whoever they vote for leaves office. Cut them suckers out.

Ya'll just can not have a discussion without being snarky.

I refuse to get into another argument with any of you.
I'm really quite tired of the snark.
Discussing a topic is one thing.
The "mean girl" mentality is getting old.

Discussion? You say something as STUPID as wanting to deny half of Americans the right to vote and you don't expect a bad response?
And you have the NERVE to conveniently still allow yourself to vote? You think you are so much better than others that YOU should get to vote, a convicted felon collecting disability, while you want to take that right away from someone else?
Talk about frickin' mean girl. What makes you so much better than anyone else that votes?

Look at you. Throwing the past in my face.
I said it was my opinion.
But here you are again, making a personal attack.
And yeah, I am a convicted felon.
Have you EVER seen me deny that?
Yes. I do receive disability.
Have you EVER seen me deny that?
I did not ask to be disabled. I did not choose to be disabled.
You really are a piece of work lately.
You have called me names, put me down, made fun of me, thrown things from my personal past in my face and now you want to try to make me feel bad because my body has turned on me?
For your information, my right to vote has been reinstated, my debts to society have been paid. I made a really bad set of choices once in my life and I took responsibility for it.
So you sit there in judgment of me and my personal life, you want to condemn me because I owned up to my wrong doings and changed my life.
So be it. I owe you nothing.
My thoughts on voting are my thoughts.
You have your thoughts.
Notice how I, the convicted, disabled, high school graduate, did not attack you personally.
You question my ability to discuss a topic?
I don't know what your problem is lately.

I'm not the one that said some people are not worthy of having the right to vote.

According to Lily, I shouldn't get to vote because I'm not a property owner. Yet I work and pay taxes and have been since I was 15. That's 33 years of working and trust me, I'm not retiring anytime soon. I have never not worked. Only time I've ever not worked was 6 weeks maternity leave 3 times. But I shouldn't get to vote.

Well, of course. And yet, I'm the mean one.

Why do you care why I'm here? You keep asking this question like it's going to magically make me disappear. Not going to happen...lol. Now are you going to tell me about all your friends again? Be a jerk to lily all you want but then don't play innocent when you get called on it.

Is this the beat up lily thread now? It seems to have taken on a life of it's own.
Maybe she should think a little about how her comments might rile people up before she hits post. She brought that on herself. I'm sorry I don't own a piece of land, but I am a notary and with that, they encourage you to vote. They expect you to vote.
She was giving her opinion just like everybody else. I guess I don't see the need for the pile on.
It's hypocritical, and just plain wrong. It shows an attitude that is so un-American, it's ridiculous, and yet she thinks SHE should get to vote while she would deny that right to others. That's a very bad, hypocritical, snobbish, and VSS opinion.
And some opinions show a great deal about who the person is.

While I don't agree with lilys opinion there are a few others who said some pretty outrageous opinions about who should vote and I don't see them getting any flak at all. It just seems to be about bashing lily now and not the actual topic. Flame me if you want but that's what I'm seeing.

The difference is, I was being facetious. She was dead serious.

That was sarcasm. It should have been obvious.
But, since you seem to think nobody is allowed to respond harshly to opinions - please remember that the next time you want to respond to flan or husker's opinions.

There were others who were also serious but not a word to them. I guess it's whether you're "liked" or not.
You are wrong. Many of MY comments - the sarcastic ones - were directed at all those people stating ridiculous requirements to vote, that's why there weren't direct quotes of any ONE person's comments in most of them. Lily is just the one who came back and took it personally.

What I don't understand is why the automatic slam and personal attack instead of asking why I said that.
Property owners are generally paying more taxes. They are generally most likely to be more stable.
Perhaps a requirement for how long a person has lived in that area would be better.
It isn't about excluding.
More about proving you have a right.
It might have more bearing on local elections.

Why do you feel the need to jump into every argument? You try to act like you don't stir the pot but you do it so often it's glaring.
You can't just sit by, but you can post this to flan as you do the exact same thing?
What lily's parents taking her on vacation had to do the the OP I don't know. Yes I stir the pot with flan and she stirs the pot with me but then I don't deny it or bring her personal life into it and I don't encourage anyone else to pile on.

Unstable people are still citizens.
The only requirement to vote should be that you are a citizen. Period.
I would love an explanation of why people on disability and unemployment should be able to vote but not people on with housing or medicare.
Around here, disability and unemployment are the two biggest jokes. Everyone works the system and cheats it.

Well, there are places non-citizens can vote, and the dems are pushing to expand that...

Having to be a property owner was bad enough and shows a level of classism reserved to lords and peasants.
However, it was the "welfare recipients can't vote, but disability recipients can" that is the real problem. And you've yet to explain that distinction to Dona as she asked.

Unemployment and disability are not choices.
Food stamps and medicaid may not always be a choice, but it is something that can become a matter of choice.
