Yes, wearing glasses can be difficult if you have to wear goggles or a face shield because of bio-hazards.

I've never NOT been given a Christmas bonus. Even the place i worked as a teen gave Christmas bonuses. And not piddly bonuses.
And that is great. But that is YOUR experience. Not all of us have worked at places that gave out bonuses.

Me too. Worked from 16 yrs old, the only "bonus" of any kind I ever got was a $25 gift card to a local grocery store.
Even after moving into management.

I remember one employer I had. They were planning the Christmas party. I was off the day of the Christmas party and they send out "mandatory" invitations. We did not get paid for attending the party. I went to my boss and told her I was scheduled to have lasix surgery the day of the party and would not be able to attend. I explained that I had planned the surgery on my day off so they didn't have to find someone to cover my shift. She told me to either cancel my surgery or I would be penalized for not showing up at the mandatory Christmas party. I went through with the surgery and when I came back they informed me that I had forfeited my right to my $25 Christmas bonus, free blanket with the hospital name printed on it, and my Christmas turkey. You know what? I didn't really care. If that is the kind of employer you are just keep all your crap.
How is that even legal?
I dunno. Does the government even get involved in Christmas parties?
Here, all hospital employees work for the government, and have strong unions. No goddamn way could they force an employee to go to a party, unpaid. That's absurd. I can maybe see giving out gift to the ones who actually show up, but forcing you to go to a mandatory party? No way in hell.
Thankfully, unions are going the way of the dodo bird here. And the people in the medical field that i know would change careers before they would work for the government.
Our Christmas party is not mandatory. Ive never known anyone to not attend. But 90% of our employees are salary anyway.
Uh huh. I guess that's why many of your doctors are moving here so they can work for the government.

As a government employee, we have always had "holiday" parties. Some places we sang Christmas carols, some just food, drink, and maybe games & music. Some had Santa there so the employees brought their children. But in all of them, we paid for ourselves. Some places have a "morale" fund you pay into each paycheck which reduces the cost and covers treats served at all-hands meetings, etc. None of the parties were ever mandatory.
