The more you talk about your life, the more selfish and mean you sound.

Especially if she's truly worried that he is suicidal.

Meh. I have a weird cousin. She never moved out from her parents' home. She only had one job which was short-lived. She's an attorney and appears to be intellectual. But when you talk to her, you have no idea WTF she's talking about. Rather than exclude her, I will smile, ask her how she is doing, then in a break from her tirade, will excuse myself to do something. Then just talk to people with whom I have more in common. Give her a hug and wish her well as she is leaving.

It's not that difficult to get along with someone for a day.

That's right.  Just because someone blurts out a laundry list of problems doesnt mean it's your job to fix their life for them.  Just nod and say "oh that's too bad" and then get back to eating, drinking and making merry!

I could do it for a day.  He's here for a week to 10 days.  He pouts if we don't watch what he wants.  He pouts if we go to dinner to a place he doesn't like, and yet, he won't give us any ideas.  The kids call him Squidward.  He's Squidward X 10...

10 days? That's a bit much for anybody. Doesn't he know the rules about visiting? Fish and company stinks after 3 days.

He's depressed and unhappy all the time.   His own BF doesn't do holiday's with him because he ruins it for everyone.  He's miserable and wants everyone else to be too...

As a grown up, you have a responsibility to not ruin things for other people. You dont' get to go to someone's wedding and pitch a fit because you don't like the food or rain down misery on others. Same with holidays. Plaster a smile on your face and shut the fruck up. Talk about football or whatever. Make pleasant small talk. YOu have the other 300+days of the year to wallow.

I get it.

It's like carrying a bag that just gets heavier and heavier.

And there are those who can be completely healthy, be surrounded by friends and family and not have a care in the world and they still complain.

 Maybe PHYSICALLY, but NOT mentally.

So get counseling. People will go to the ends of the earth for their physical health but dont want to spend $100 to see a therapist.

I agree with you. I was responding to Lily, who was looking in from the outside.
