There really are people that just $uck the life out of everything.
Yes, Lexx, vent away.
I'm one of the only people at work that grew up here. The rest are from all over the world. I was always told that I should let the people that have to go out of town have Christmas off since my family was here and I didn't have to travel...and I get to see them throughout the year. It sucked.
Then were merged with another company that is off between Christmas Eve and New Years, so we go their perk...
About 5 years ago we decided to close between Christmas & New Years. We had two clients that just whined & cried after the holidays that they desperately needed us & we weren't available. One of those clients cancelled his policies he was so angry. So that was the end of that.
Good for you getting the new perk. Enjoy your time off.
Oh boohoo. I bet those same people are the type that tell the cashier that their employer should close on Christmas yet here they are shopping. Good grief. I say it'd be good enough to check the voicemails once a day and tend to any emergencies. Routine stuff can wait a week.
The thing is they can contact any of our companies directly. The 800 number is on most correspondence or hay look it up on the internet. And yes they are calling from home since they have the week off. But we are a customer service industry & need to keep ours happy.
Eh. I don't ascribe to the notion that working customer service means you must cater to every whim. Customer service workers are people too and they deserve to also have time off. I hate the sense of entitlement that's so prevalent these days.

I wish you were my boss!!
Seriously it won't be so bad 11-3. That is plenty of time for clients to get their business done especially if they are working & have to do it on their lunch hour. And tough shyt if they can't get it together before 3pm.
I really think we should do like Japan and just shut down for several days. EVERYTHING shuts down for New Year's and many, many things are closed for days at a time.

Yep!
If I had a business, I would make it very clear to the customers that my employees will not be expected to kiss their rear ends. Rudeness will not be tolerated. If you can't treat my employees like human beings and be respectful to them, get out.
I'm willing to work with good customers. If a good customer needed something after hours, I wouldn't have a problem personally helping them. That's a perk of being a good customer.
I don't give a single rip about the entitled ones. I don't reward bad behavior.
Seriously though. I get such a laugh over people who get all bent out of shape that a business is open but there they are. I had one customer throw a fit because how dare we be open on Thanksgiving and why are we open?! I replied: "For people such as yourself who like the convenience of the toll road even on holidays." I always volunteered for holiday shifts (overtime pay!) but sheesh. Don't gripe about us being open when you're at my window.

This is the first job I've had where the entire company shuts down for almost 2 weeks, all Holiday time paid. It is in lieu of all the other Holidays throughout the year, but I am loving it!

Can you imagine the chaos if the US did that?
We would adapt. Just a little change pain and then it would be ok.

Thanks all. Peppermint cheesecake is my signature Christmas dessert.

Hope everyone had a good day. I am considering taking a pain pill. Went to the dentist and had an in-depth cleaning/scaling done. Owie!
I was a little lost today with no school work to do today. Took my neighbor/bird sitter to breakfast and went over everything with her. Managed to keep busy getting four loads of laundry done and started getting the house cleaned before vacation so we can come home to a clean house.

Relaxation is an art!
With a little practice, you'll get the hang of it.
Baklava done! DH has never had it. I hope it tastes good!

It's my first time ever to try it FWM! I nibbled a corner. Shhhhhhhhh. It's good! We didn't even try to do diagonal cutting!

Just finished the meatballs. Whew. They are all packed up and in the fridge. I need to wait a few minutes for the pan to cool so I can rinse it and get it cleaned up. Cleaned the whole kitchen - it's ready to go as long as DH doesn't decide to make breakfast. Odds of it being clean when we get back from the airport tomorrow...slim. 😉
As soon as DD and my folks get here I won't be on much. I will be surrounded by family and good food. So in case I don't make it back in time, Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate! I hope everyone enjoys some time with family and friends or else some quiet alone time doing what ever you want! May it be everything you want the holiday to be!

Looks good! I've never had it. I might have to make it and see if I like it.
Baklava is a Greek dessert. Made with layers and layers of pyhillo dough. Each layer has to be brushed with butter and then you spread a mixture of nuts and sugar on them. After the layers are done you cut and bake and make a syrup out of honey. When it is done baking you pour the hot syrup over it and it soaks it up. It is ooey and goey and delicious. Time intensive but delicious.

I really need to start hiding everything though. I think DH honestly ate three dozen cookies today.

A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
I love Greek food, and eat a lot of it. Souvlaki, taramasalata, pastitsio, spanakopita, pikilia, kefalograviera...all absolutely delicious.
I can't abide baklava, though. WAY too sweet.
It is a treat that only takes a tiny amount to have enough of.
