We're supposed to be having a relaxing Christmas Eve. But DH decided we needed lottery tickets. So off he went for them. Then they went to Starbucks. I'm not sure when they'll roll on home. We had egg casserole and some coffee cake. SS just called. He'll be here tomorrow morning. Santa already hit our house. I got more dog biscuits made. I need to get a couple things ready for tomorrow but other than that I'm good.
I think this is the most laid back Christmas Eve we've had. Last year was a disaster. I haven't gotten out of my pajama's all day.

Well. A little yes. I mean, they are not trying to be rude just clueless I think, but I've told stories of my MIL regifting my gifts to her back to me, or asking me to return them for her. Usually they are late, but never this late.
Anyway, Dh wasn't surprised when I told him, and said we should stop inviting them. He also said we are eating when the food is ready whether they are here or not, and putting the kids to bed at their normal bedtime. Which will work for DD1 but DD7 is really excited to see them and open presents, so we will probably let her stay up.
This is what I would do and ask them to leave when you need them to. If they get all offended just let them know that schedule is everything when there are little ones around and you hope that next year they can be more prepared.

DH just talked to his mom, she said they should be ready to leave in a half hour, which puts them here at 8. I want o reschedule, but Dd is really disappointed.. So we are debating that right now.
Eta the baby is already asleep and we just finished eating. It wouldn't be so bad but dh and I are both exhausted and we have a lot of stuff to do after Dd goes to bed as well.

I think this is why we do things around lunch time instead of dinner.

He does. Despite all my shortcomings. I know, hard to believe I'm not perfect! Great minds HM!
NAOW, I know some people here will get pissed off when I say this but I am so glad we don't have to mess with all that. Seriously, we call DN and she either comes or doesn't. And life goes on.

Dh talks a big game but he told them we should reschedule and they said they didn't want to... So they are still coming. I'm angry now.
That really stinks. You are answering the door in pj's right?
I would!

DD informed us over dinner that she is quitting her job to go to grad school. She wants to be an art therapist. She has been going to one for about 6 months and thinks it would really make her happy. We told her as long as she is happy, we are happy. She plans on working at a bar at night and going to grad school during the day. The bar she used to work at - she made more money there than she has at her "day job".

Well, sounds like she thought this out!

Njn, the roses are lovely. Mm, your dd sounds like she knows what she wants to do, NAOW sorry your in laws were late. Got a call from my dd. It's Christmas morning there and she woke up to the sound of wrapping paper tearing at 6 in the morning, goes downstairs and catches her 3 yr old opening all the presents by herself. They explained to her that she had to wait for Christmas but didn't explain to her to wait for the parents.

Oh no! That'll make a cute story to remind her of the rest of her life :)

We just got back from Itty bitty's.
Several times she said, "I don't want to open any more presents."
(And there truly were NOT an obscene amount of gifts...she just wanted to play with most of them after she opened them.)

flan
That's how DD was at that age. Just wanted to play with what she opened. It took about 3 days to get everything opened when she was two.
Lindley, that is a precious story.
The roses are really pretty, are those ornaments hanging off of them or is there a decorated plant behind the vase? Very pretty anyway.

Our Christmas tree is right behind the roses. The ornaments are on the tree!
