We have a stay at home tradition on New Years Eve.

My husband is always working on end of year closing on new years eve so I'm always alone. One year my dd, sil, niece and I went to New York City and was so excited that I was going to spend new years eve on timesquare but got lost and still spent it by myself except I was in a huge crowd.
We get an early dinner at a local Thai restaurant then come home, put the kids to bed, and watch TV until the ball drops. He usually has to wake me up on the sofa, we drink champagne and go to bed. Wild ones, we are.
In my wilder days, I would be out all night. Drinking, dancing, engaging in other adult activities.
Now I spend it in church.
We have a dessert social hour, then a singing and then we take communion and pray out the old and pray in the new.

Our county used to do a "Sober Ride" program - supported by all the bars/restaurants that serve alcohol on New Year's Eve. They would call the Sheriff's Office & request a ride for a patron; Driver & shotgun would take patron home, and pick him/her up late the next morning or afternoon at a specific time, and return them to the bar, where they could pick up their keys and car. Free for the bar; free for the patron; bar would pay for gas for the Sober Ride driver. Unfortunately, it didn't get instituted this year. Don't know why. Never had any problems for the drivers - probably because there was another person with the driver. And fortunately none of the drivers had to clean up any "accidents" in the back seat!
When DS was growing up we would make a nice meal on NYE, friends came over, usually steak and lobster. Then we would be in bed by 10 and get up early to go skiing. In those days people were too hung over to be on the slopes so we would have the mountain to ourselves until 1 or so. I refuse to drive after 7 on NYE's, scared of the drunks. So happy I am taking DD up to the mountains this year and we will stay for a couple of days.

That is done around here, but not just NYE. You just have to prove you have a car nearby, they don't want people taking advantage of the program by using it as a taxi service. There is one tow truck owner that does it too. He will bring you and your car home!

Our tradition is to have appetizers of all kinds. We just nibble all night long. At midnight we break open the sparkling grape juice and toast to the new year. Sometimes we do fireworks. Just the little ones like ground spinners and sparklers.

well, I have never gone out on a New Years Eve. My dad passed away in 1976 at 39 when I was 15 on New Years Eve. so I stayed home with mom (and eventually my family) until she passed away on January 30, 1997.
When my kids were little we made confetti and snacks and they tossed it around (good gosh WHAT was I thinking LOL) and then we were all in bed by 10 after watching the ball drop, as we are in Wyoming so happens in Time Square earlier LOL
Now, DH and I will just stay home and watch a movie, snacks and a few beers, nothing too wild. the temps are below zero here so too dang cold to venture out at night
Not really too exciting of a night LOL
Whoa, you sound like DH and I!!
Last year we went all out and went to the casino. We were home by 11:30!!!
So much for our partying, lol.
ETA: Sorry your dad passed on a holiday. That always makes it tough to enjoy forever after.

A few days after her failed brain surgery, my mother passed away around midnight, the night before my birthday. When the doctor heard that the next day was my birthday, he set the time of death at 11:59 p.m.

We will, thanks! I have food packed, chicken wings marinating. I rented a 2 bedroom suite that has a kitchen, balcony, and fireplace. Plus there is an indoor pool and a tubing park. We Won't be skiing. I would like to but neither girl wants to ski. There are all kinds of kid activities including zip lining. I am hoping they want to do that. It will be a fun packed two days.

Ed, that doctor was very kind. Sorry for your loss.

New Year's Eve is the anniversary of our first date.
This year we are going into the cities, eating dinner so place nice (I told DH to surprise me) and staying downtown at a hotel where we can watch the fireworks from the balcony.

We will be home for NYE, per the usual. When I was single, I went to the casino for one NYE and met my uncle at a bar for another. I'm not a drinker and was rather uncomfortable at the bar. The casino was fun. They had a band and dancing then a champagne toast at midnight. I do love champagne but DH thinks it tastes like soap water so no reason to buy a bottle.
Still getting everything put away from Christmas and DS' birthday. We're so worn out from last week that not much gets done each day so it's slow going.

It has always been a very special holiday for us. We haven't always done something spectacular. When the kids were younger we loved staying home and just celebrating it with them, counting down at the top of our lungs! Now that we don't have kids at who need to hang out with us, we try and do something special together. We celebrate this anniversary like it was our wedding anniversary and don't really celebrate our wedding anniversary at all.

Found out today at work that our GM has resigned to move back to his home state and tend to his mother on her death bed.
He has to submit a few succession plans to the board so they can approve one of them. He is recommending I become the interim GM while the board searches for a replacement. Upon the replacement's hire, I would get a promotion and a significant raise. I don't want the job outright, but wouldn't mind doing it until they find a suitable candidate. It might take up to 6-8 months.

It's going to be a lot of work. But it will be a big resume builder. And honestly, part of me thinks they won't be able to find someone and I will end up doing it permanently. If the money is right...
