There really are people who celebrate this. The first time I heard about it I laughed thinking it was a joke. The woman was serious and I think I hurt her feelings.

Seeing how SS has spent his day "inventing tales" I would do this in a heartbeat. If you're going to be a brat you deserve what you get.

Loved the video, but in all seriousness, is this really a thing???
Yes. People really do this. We used to have a poster here that had like five girls and she did this with each of her girls. It was a huge deal in their family. The whole family went out to dinner and the gave the period girl presents. I thought it was really bizarre.

When DD got hers, I had all the females she really loved give her their favorite monthly coping mechanism. She got chocolate, a cute hot water bottle, and a few other cute items. She was dreading getting her period, so we made it a bit more special than normal. She got cards from the women telling her how much they loved her and how she could count on them if she needed anything. It was just my mom, DD's godmother, my aunt and my best friend. We didn't have a party, they just sent me the presents and she opened them at home. I made her favorite dinner and she opened the presents afterward. She called each person and thanked them for her presents. It was cute. It changed how she felt about it and helped her transition a bit better.
When her sister got hers, she was much more scientific/medical about it. She didn't mind at all and she just took care of her business and moved on with her day.

OMG I forgot about that until now.
I didn't remember that, but I can guess who it was.
I can't imagine any of this. I would have been so mortified if I knew my mother was running around telling everyone, let alone receiving gifts or advice. I was 11 and I was taught that it was no big deal and no one ever had to know when I was menstruating because I do anything and everything I usually do.
It was taught that way in school, too. Of course, I had horrible cramps so my teachers and office admin usually knew because I would dart of class to throw up or check out and go home. I was lucky I grew up in So. Cal where the classrooms were open air and I could run around the corner to a bush without being seen.
