I read this in an article from a few years ago:

The weight of scholarly legal and historical opinion appears to support the notion that 'natural born Citizen' means one who is entitled under the Constitution or laws of the United States to U.S. citizenship 'at birth' or 'by birth,' including any child born 'in' the United States, the children of United States citizens born abroad, and those born abroad of one citizen parents who has met U.S. residency requirements," the CRS's Jack Maskell wrote. So in short: Cruz is a citizen; Cruz is not naturalized; therefore Cruz is a natural-born citizen, and in any case his mother is a citizen.

 Well, I don't know.  I am not a lawyer.  He has on US citizen parent and one who is not.  So, i need to see what the law says on that or how that is to be interpreted.

 I have read articles over the years and there seems to be arguments on both sides.  Just parsing this one it seems it may be interesting.

Wouldn't a natural born citizen just be someone that is born a citizen? I mean, if you are both to parents stationed overseas, you are still natural born. It doesn't actually say "born on U.S. soil".

Although I remember clearly that "born on U.S. soil" thing being taught in school, which is why there is probably so much confusion.

My baby granddaughter is a us citizen even though she was born in a country in Asia. Per their law at least one parent had to be a citizen. At two weeks old she got her us passport.
