Others agree with me so why are the ones who agree with you right? I think you try way too hard to make out you don't drink too much. Good luck with that because it just makes you look like a drunk.

Even using the approved medical definition it is only ONE of like 10 factors, so by itself, it is not defining.  Using your absurd definition, everyone in France and Italy must be alcoholic since most of them have wine with dinner.

Heck, read e link provided by honeys mom. It is from a clean and sober resource website.

The question directly asked is whether one is an alcoholic if they drink every day. The answer given by a clean and sober website is "not necessarily".

He doesn't understand need vs want.

Physical addiction isn't about amount.

It's about the chemical imbalance.

For why you drink too much. Every thread about alcohol you get like this so there is a reason. Maybe way in the back of your mind you know you have a problem but you're not ready to admit it yet. That's ok. It doesn't affect me either way.

????  And how much is that?

Again, read the literature on the subject.  Even using their definitions you are wrong.

I use common definitions. "Normal" is what most people would think. Not those that think chugging back 4 drinks a day is low.

Not necessarily a raging alcoholic, but if you can't go a single day without drinking, there's definitely a problem.

Just because you SAY you're right, doesn't make you right, despite your signature.

Why are you so vociferous in defending daily drinking? Is there something you would like to share with the class?

Well, then i guess you have to say the same thing about people taking their daily prescription meds because there are a hell of a lot of people taking xanax, and all kinds of pills on a daily basis.

 It is low.

again, your working definition seems to be anyone who drinks more than you do is an alcoholic,

So? I posted a website that says you have to have two booze-free days a week.

Those are dietary guidelines.  They say nothing about whether or not one is an alcoholic.

That's not what i am talking about.  People get a daily prescription, so Oh in have a prescription from my doctor to take daily mood altering drugs and that is somehow different than someone having a beer or glass of wine every day.  Sure.

In other countries, don't they drink on a daily basis? If you want to shake your finger and say "oh yes they are alcoholics", then have at it. Who cares? If they drink a couple drinks after work and are in their homes, what is that to you?

But on average, we dont drink nearly as much as some countries.  In fact, we are 48th in the world in terms of pure alcohol consumed per capita.  We even trail Nigeria which has a high population of Muslims.

I think people still have a lot of puritan ideas about drinking. Personally, i think that life is about moderation. I think people can do most anything in moderation. But, Americans tend to love to live to excess. So, often there is a lot of excess no matter what it is. Eating, drinking, drugs, you name it.

If an American or Canadian has to drink every single day, there's a problem.

Fine. Booze it up. Every day. No problem.
If you can't tell the difference between coffee, prescribed medications and liquor, that's a problem in itself.

Who's boozing it up?  Can you not actually have an actual conversation or debate about anything without your snark?  DH doesn't drink so it isn't something i would do daily.  He grew up in alcoholic home so he doesnt' like to be around it which is fine because i don't care about it all that much one way or another.  But, if i am out with friends i can enjoy some wine or beer, big whoop.  But, there are people in our social circle who drink daily.  They aren't alcoholics.  You can label them whatever you want to label them but they are normal people going to work and living their lives like anyone else.  I don't see that they are having a problem.  So, yeah, there are alcoholics and they need help and should get help.

Over the years I've had periods where I drank too much. When I decided to quit, I NEVER had the shakes or sweats. It's not heroin.

It varies by size, body type, and a lot of factors.

The people who I've seen have the shakes, though, put down an entire bottle of scotch every night.
