A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
My dad was a tough Texan and he hated the circus because they were known to mistreat animals. He refused to go to ever take us kids to one. I don't like to see any innocent living being mistreated either whether it is a animal or baby.
When I lived in Ohio, as a child we had about an acre, as did our neighbors. When the circus came to town, our crazy neighbor lady befriended the workers and invited them to stay on her property. So next door to us, we had 3 mobile homes (the old timey silver ones) and 3 horse trailers. They had large Percheron horses in the trailers and did not let them out the entire 2 weeks except for when they went to work at the circus. They stayed in the trailers the entire time. These are large horses and they shouldn't be cooped up like that. The workers had all the dogs used in the circus in their trailers. There were over 20 dogs in one trailer with the family. It stunk and they got very little food. The workers didn't give a hoot about the animals. They were hustlers who only worried about the money. They would do anything for a buck.

At the circus? WTF are you babbling about?
husker, try and keep up. READ the thread.

I did. It was about the circus--and then it went off on some irrelevant tangent that has nothing to do with anything--and that's how they "back up" their nonsense.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
Maybe you could go to the Toro del Fuego, where they set live bulls on fire, for a nightcap. Bring the kids!
This is sick and insane. And Lily, I do not believe you are ok with this if you saw it in real life. Very few people really find this acceptable.
I was pulling Weltz's strings.
I said in my first post I don't want animals abused.

Oh, OK. You are killing it too but you aren't cuz it's going into a "coma". Uh huh. You don't ever eat fresh lobster?
Well do you think there is a difference between a person being lit on fire while alive and a person going into a coma and then dying?! Cause I know which way I would prefer to go...

Obviously we should not needlessly torture animals. Nobody here is advocating that in any way.
The last circus I went to actually had very few animals. However, many people don't like the circus and that's their prerogative. I would never hold that against them. It's not like caring more about animals than entertainment is a bad thing.

I have never been to a circus with animals, and never want to.
I read Water for Elephants, and that had some graphic accounts of animal cruelty, and I doubt it even touched the surface of the truth
And for the record - if people can't handle a few declines on birthday party invites - they really shouldn't have parties. Not everyone will attend, for whatever reason.

There is nothing wrong with not going. RSVP. Sorry we cannot attend. Period. You don't have to go to any party if you don't want too. But, that isnt a license then to lecture and moralize at other adults. If you don't like the circus, don't go. That's your "vote" so to speak.
I haven't seen any circuses advertised in years. I am not a fan of zoos or circuses or any of that. I feel sorry for caged animals. However, I do think that there is nothing wrong with using animals for food, service, work, etc. And, i think zoos are a good thing that helps educate people.
We love zoos, rodeos, Sea World, Busch Gardens, aquariums and petting zoos.
They all have a place in teaching kids about animals. Creating a love of animals.
We never would have seen a dolphin, whale, lion elephant or any of the other animals of the world without those places and events.
No. Animals should not be abused.
But there is nothing wrong with training an animal to do tricks and putting on shows.
So glad my kids got to be kids.
There. In my first post on this subject.
And yes. I loved the circus.

Your first post said how much you LOVE Barnum & Bailey, which is one of the WORST abusers of animals.
To be fair not everyone knows how they treat their animals. You would think that B&B should treat their animals well. If not just for humane reasons but to take good care of the animals and is part of their living.
Never been to Barnum and Bailey. They don't come to the Midwest. I'll bet it's really good, though.
Oh it was! I was about 9 when we went.
So much to see. Animals, acrobats, clowns.
It filled every sense.

You would THINK...but apparently living creatures are a dime a dozen.

I couldn't read that book. I can't handle anything like that.

Yes, you said animals shouldn't be abused, but you love B&B, which abuses animals
You can't read.

I try to be a conscientious shopper, whether I'm buying food or tickets for entertainment. If it uses palm oil, I don't buy it.
If it uses child slave labour, like most chocolate, I don't buy it. If it abuses animals, I don't buy it.
Will it make even a lick of difference? Probably not, but I have to stand by what I believe in.
Before I went to Cavalia, I researched it. Those horses are pampered beyond belief, aren't worked very hard, and have lots of free time to run around in, instead of being chained up.
When I went to the show, it was clear that those horses are loved. I saw the workers bacstage, kissing them and the horses were nuzzling back.
The Lipizzaner Stallion show? Those horses are spoiled rotten, have daily massages, and the best food money can buy. They're not caged up and are eager to perform. The can't wait for their turn to strut their stuff in front of an audience.
