The fact that they are mobile and are constantly moving from place to place probably has a LOT to do with why they aren't prosecuted more often. By the time local authorities hear anything about the abuse and have enough to investigate, the offenders are probably on their way out of town.

I'm not a fan of circuses for many reasons. I don't like to see the animals doing tricks, I don't like freaks, and clowns give me pause.

I'm not sure whether I would let the boys go to a circus. There are a couple that come to town each year, including Ringling. We took the boys to the Ripley's museum and there were exhibits that #2 thought were "inappropriate."

As for the animals, I try to teach the boys that animals are to be feared and respected, as any animal, domesticated or wild, can act on their instincts at any given second and hurt us.

And what would a ban do? It would put thousands of people out of work. Whereas, enforcing animal cruelty laws would make the bad circuses accountable and do better without punishing everyone that makes a living off of it.

I always taught my kids, if it has a mouth, it can bite.

As for Ripley's, we love those places. I think we've been to everyone we've come close enough to.

I don't think I ever went to a circus either, lexxy. One time my parents took us, but it wasn't there. We were all baffled. Maybe they had to leave in the middle of the night or something. It was weird. Dad got tickets from a customer so he thought we'd check it out. Nope.

I went to a cirque du soleil one time and didn't like it either. Freaks, IMO. There was a contortionist show on a cruise ship I saw. Didn't like that either. Freaks.
