I try to be a conscientious shopper, whether I'm buying food or tickets for entertainment. If it uses palm oil, I don't buy it. If it uses child slave labour, like most chocolate, I don't buy it. If it abuses animals, I don't buy it. Will it make even a lick of difference? Probably not, but I have to stand by what I believe in. Before I went to Cavalia, I researched it. Those horses are pampered beyond belief, aren't worked very hard, and have lots of free time to run around in, instead of being chained up. When I went to the show, it was clear that those horses are loved. I saw the workers bacstage, kissing them and the horses were nuzzling back. The Lipizzaner Stallion show? Those horses are spoiled rotten, have daily massages, and the best food money can buy. They're not caged up and are eager to perform. The can't wait for their turn to strut their stuff in front of an audience.
That's a sign of someone who has too much time on their hands and not enough real crap to worry about.

I'm sorry if it doesn't please Your Highness.
Worry about your own crap.
Just think of all the worthwhile things you could be doing instead...Ummm...like insulting posters on message board...
We love zoos, rodeos, Sea World, Busch Gardens, aquariums and petting zoos.
They all have a place in teaching kids about animals. Creating a love of animals.
We never would have seen a dolphin, whale, lion elephant or any of the other animals of the world without those places and events.
No. Animals should not be abused.
But there is nothing wrong with training an animal to do tricks and putting on shows.
So glad my kids got to be kids.
There. In my first post on this subject.
And yes. I loved the circus.
Yes, you said animals shouldn't be abused, but you love B&B, which abuses animals
According to your definition--which is BS.
What's YOUR definition of abuse? welts was spot on.

If they are breaking the law--then they should get fined/punished/prosecuted, or whatever. If they are not, then STFU.
STFU?? Asses and sh!t? Charming.
Again....your parents didn't raise you very well. Did you spend your childhood in a trailer park?
My parents did just fine. Not sure what yours were doing, however.
If all you can comment on is the language--then you have given up and lost--but it's just as well since you don't have any points to make, anyway.
It's also laughable that those in favor of killing babies are trying to moralize about someone's upbringing. Cute.

I was never in favour of killing BABIES, but nice try.
You want to start an abortion thread? Have at it. THIS thread is about circuses and animal abuse. Funny how you howl about people going off-topic, but now you throw abortion into the mix.

What do my parents have to do with circuses??? NOTHING. You are the one who went off topic.

You have NOTHING with which to argue your points, so you insult someone's parents.
THAT is what is crude.
ROTFLMAO!!! A desperate attempt to redeem yourself.
So far you've said STFU, referenced asses and sh!t. THAT'S what someone does when they have no argument. Resort to lewdness and crudeness.
Good day, sir.
I commented on the topic. You refuse to address that--probably because you can't.
She already did. You are choosing to ignore her statistics.
flan
No. It doesn't work that way. I asked why, if there is all this abuse, the authorities are not involved?
Likely because her definition of abuse is not remotely the legal definition.
It's the same way with the animal rights nuts who protest chicken farms and other such ridiculous people. They think their version of what constitutes "abuse" should be the law. Well, it's not.

The fact that they are mobile and are constantly moving from place to place probably has a LOT to do with why they aren't prosecuted more often. By the time local authorities hear anything about the abuse and have enough to investigate, the offenders are probably on their way out of town.

We don't need to "ban" circuses. We have laws about animal cruelty. Enforce those. Why is it liberals want to BAN everything? You guys are the true censors of society. So, if you ban circuses, does that mean nobody can use animal performers in any event? Sheesh. Ban, ban, ban, regulate, regulate, regulate.

Another day, same meaningless rant.
Wild animals deserve better. America has some amazing zoos where people of all ages can learn to appreciate the beauty & grandeur of nature.
Circuses are cruel.

It's not a meaningless rant flan. It's your philosophy. You don't like something or think there is some injustice so your Reflex Go To position is to have Govt "Ban" everything. And, for some reason , having something "banned" makes you actually believe that it solves a particular problem, when in reality it doesn't. The problem is not a Circus or having animal performers. The problem is animal cruelty. Just like guns. Ban guns. Well, murder is banned. Murder WITH a gun is banned, yet your bans and endless govt regulations do nothing except punish law abiding people.
Yep. Enforce the laws we have, and we won't need more intrusive laws. Kind of like illegal immigration, welfare fraud, etc. We have laws against it - but they are not being enforced.

Well, it would help if the government would respond and investigate complaints. But the government has to care.

What is it with you and "guarantees'? There are no guarantees in life. What is you want exactly? Murder with a gun is against the law, so why hasn't that stopped murder with a gun? You seem to think there is just one more mystical magical law that somehow will make everything right. You have been on this planet long enough to know that isn't so.

Good point. And they're "only" animals.
How often does child abuse go unnoticed or, even if it's reported, nothing is done?

This is a free country. You want to stop circuses? Spread the word about abuse and get people to stop going. If no one is buying tickets - the circus will close. Stop relying on the government to be the nanny of the world - they suck at it.

I'm not a fan of circuses for many reasons. I don't like to see the animals doing tricks, I don't like freaks, and clowns give me pause.
I'm not sure whether I would let the boys go to a circus. There are a couple that come to town each year, including Ringling. We took the boys to the Ripley's museum and there were exhibits that #2 thought were "inappropriate."
As for the animals, I try to teach the boys that animals are to be feared and respected, as any animal, domesticated or wild, can act on their instincts at any given second and hurt us.

Exactly. Libs aren't happy just going about their business. They have to ruin things for everyone else.

And what would a ban do? It would put thousands of people out of work. Whereas, enforcing animal cruelty laws would make the bad circuses accountable and do better without punishing everyone that makes a living off of it.

I always taught my kids, if it has a mouth, it can bite.
As for Ripley's, we love those places. I think we've been to everyone we've come close enough to.

Yes, I'm sure "things" would be "ruined" for everyone if circus animals were NOT abused...

If there are no circuses, it is ruined for everyone. Your definition of abuse is absurd.

I have never been to a circus. My parents never took us as kids & as an adult I could not abide the cruelty & would never give my money to them. The mere thought of a circus gives me chills.

I don't think I ever went to a circus either, lexxy. One time my parents took us, but it wasn't there. We were all baffled. Maybe they had to leave in the middle of the night or something. It was weird. Dad got tickets from a customer so he thought we'd check it out. Nope.
I went to a cirque du soleil one time and didn't like it either. Freaks, IMO. There was a contortionist show on a cruise ship I saw. Didn't like that either. Freaks.
