I have used them in the past & they helped some of my plants. But of course I killed my limon trees so you may not want to take advice from me.

I used the long flourecant tube kind. I'd turn them on for about an hour in the evening.

I bought the bulbs at Lowes. The electrical things I got free when my SO at the time remodeled a 7-11. I bet Amazon has them. They seem to have everything. Or maybe look in a High Times magazine I bet they have them for sale. biggrin

It was back in the 90s.  People would send in pictures of their plants or their biggest buds.  All kinds of information for growing & ads for hydroponic grow systems.

When I lived in an old post WW1 apartment, it had a big, beautiful but non-functional fireplace.
I filled it with plants and put in a grow light. It worked really well and looked stunning. The plants really thrived.
I bought the grow-lite bulb at the hardware store.

Call your local county extension agent, FWM. They are there to help with these questions.

Yes, high times is still being published.

You could probably put the plants in front of a window and they will get enough light.

Or, can you hibernate them? In a dark closet.

I posted pictures on the Gardening thread in the Break room a few days ago.

The lemon and lime trees seem to be doing okay in the dining room by the window.

The plants in the foyer aren't getting enough light. I just don't have anywhere else I can put them for the winter.

I saw the pictures.

A light might work.

My mawmaw brings all her plants onto the carport.

They "winter" there.

I got a couple of multi-arm floor lamps today at Target.

Then, I picked up some plant/grow bulbs at Home Depot.

I hope this makes the hibiscus in the foyer happier.wink

(I put the other floor lamp in the dining room, for the citrus trees. That will be the next picture.)

See the wee lemons?!

I know it's silly to be this excited.

I didn't expect to see more fruit growing until Spring.

That's why I'm nursing these trees, like a Mother Hen with one chick!

(The lime tree is flowering. I will have baby limes in a couple of days.)smile

I'm glad it's working. My hibiscus is dead on its side in the backyard. Our only casualty from the tornadoes, thank goodness.
They play ads for Gas Pipe on the radio all the dang time. Even on Kluv. I thought you might have heard them.

I'm glad the tornado didn't hurt you worse, Tang.

I know it came closer to you, than it did to me.

I listen to Kluv all the time, and I can't say that I've ever heard a commercial for them.

(Probably because I change the station to 92.5 when a commercial comes on.wink

Glad you found your lights. I was going to say any hardware/home improvement store would probably have them.

I would be excited about your lemons (and limes) too! There not even mine and I was excited to see them! "Oh look! She's got little fruits!"

Welts, and ladyloonatic, thank you for being excited with me!smile

They really are cute!wink

(And, if we want to have a good laugh, let's try to do the math.

I paid $50 bucks a piece for the trees. It was buy one, get one free. So, $50 for the lemon and lime trees.

The pots were probably $20 a piece. So, $40 for the pots.

We're up to $ 90, right?

Let's not even worry about potting soil, fertilizer, and water. It's not enough money to worry about.

Okay, the floor lights were $50 a piece. One for the tropical plants in the foyer. One for the trees in the dining room. So, $50 for the light, for the citrus trees.

Another $32 for 6 grow bulbs. So, $16 gets tacked on to the citrus tree bill.

So, 90+50+16=$156

For a lemon and a lime tree! That will probably yield $10 of fruit per year, total!)

I wonder how many years, these babies need to produce, before I'll break even?confuse

LOL! The funny part is, I don't even care.

I'm just tickled to death, that they are still alive, and producing more fruit!wink

This was our experience when the kids were little and we grew tomatoes. They were delicious, at about $40 per pound.

I saw that, ed.cry

We tried, and tried to grow tomatoes. What a fail, that was.

No matter what kind of netting we put up, the birds would get them before they got ripe.furious

We gave up on trying to grow tomatoes.

ed, you just gave me an idea!

Now that I have grow lights, I might as well attempt to grow tomatoes inside this summer!

The birds wouldn't be able to get to them.

And, I might actually succeed, this time!

Tenth try might be the charm!wink
