Harry Potter sucked. I don't really like the genre. Lord of the rings was ok mainly due to some cool battle scenes, but a bunch of kids playing ball while flying on broomsticks or whatever it was they were doing--dumb.
Did you read the books? Flying on broomsticks is a very small part of the story.
The first movie or two sucked hours out of my life I'll never get back. No way am I committing to reading the books. I don't read fiction, anyway.
I didn't know that.
I feel sorry for you.

Most fiction is a waste of time. You can learn a lot more reading non fiction.
Spoken like someone who has never read fiction.

??? I've read a ton of fiction. Most of the "classics", most of Tolkeins works, Jim Kjelegard, jack London, Zane grey, Louis lamour, too many to mention.
A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
Thankfully, mine were just out growing that one when it started coming on.

The Vampire Diaries. I don't even know where to begin with that.
I don't care for the more recent Batman movies. I really liked the ones with Val Kimmel and Michael Keaton.
Christian Bale? Not so much.
Timothy Dalton as James Bond was awful.
Is that Jimmy Kimmel's brother?
No. It's supposed to be Kimmer.

And you didn't "learn" anything?
flan
Not nearly as much as reading Great Catherine, or The Rise and Fall of The Great Powers, or The Guns of August, or The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, or The Arms of Krupp, or Nicholas and Alexandra, or Dreadnaught, or The Tsars Last Armada, or--well, I could go on and on.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
I'm reading a novel now...The Swarm. I'm learning SO much, as it's very science-y.
I know more about subsea methane hydrate now than I ever wanted to know.
I hate the wonder pets. It is on nick jr. My nephew loved it. Did not like the book "Catcher in the rye". Had to read it in high school. It was depressing. I don't like movies or books that are about people with depressing lives.
I hate that people are so judgemental without know the circumstances. Especially around here.
BFF lost custody of three of her children when she divorced eight years ago (now Niece 21, Nephew 18, Niece 16). Biggest reason is that she could not afford to take care of them. Hell, she could not afford to take care of herself. She could not work Full Time, could barely work part time. It's not what she wanted but she knew the kids needed to be taken care of. She was living in her car for a while. Not the place for the kids.
And it was not because she was lazy or unmotivated. She is a person who has suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury but does not qualify for SSD. I know that at the time of her first brain surgery, they fvcked it up. Her DH (main caretaker, now Ex) decided not to sue and waived all rights for it (In case you thought she could do that now). In 14 years, she has had 11 surgeries to correct several issues that occurred from her first surgery to remove a simple tumor in her brain. She is getting better but at that time, there was no way she could take care of her kids, even though they were her world. She visited and spent as much time with them as she could tho.
Now, at the age of 44, she lives with her parents in their retirement home. It started because she could not live alone due to the TBI. Now, she has one of those kids living with her as well as her 4 y/o special needs daughter from another father. She is in college to become a Trauma Counselor.
If it was between giving your children the basics like food on the table and a roof over their head or having them live in horrid situations, I am guessing that you would get off your high judgemental horses and make sure that your child was taken care of over your own selfish desires.
Sorry for the rant. This is not directed at any one person. There were several posts that really, really pissed me off.
Gaga - the OP asked for unpolular opinions on classic books, movies and music. Nice way to derail a thread with political gobbledy gook - don't we have enough threads for that?
Sorry for my little rant there. I got a little worked up and let my emotions get away from me.
Kids shows.. I would watch Wonder Pets and Barney on repeat if it meant I never had to see or hear Caillou again. That one is the ABSOLUTE worst. But it doesn't really qualify for this thread, because I have yet to meet a mom who likes it, everyone thinks it sucks, not really an unpopular opinion.
The Fault in Our Stars.
The Lord of The Rings movie. The first one, anyway. It was really boring and I never watched the rest.
Oh, this one will get me in trouble. I don't like older movies, unless I rewatching ones I had seen when they were new or newish, but I have no interest in watching an old movie now for the first time.

Not being able to take care of your kids because you are ill is totally a different scenario. That wasn't what i was referring too AT ALL. I was referring to some of the moms around here who literally dump their kids for the flavor of the month boyfriend. There's a lot of that around here.
