My parents will celebrate their 50th anniversary this March.
I need help!?!?!
I'm thinking small, intimate reception with family and a few close friends.
Finger foods, a cake and nice decor.
Ideas?
Tips?
They married in a vault in Ringgold on a Friday, went back to work on Monday.
They didn't have anything incredibly special that day.
So I really want this to be as special as it can be.

My cousins made a video of their lives together for their parents special anniversary. It was very nice & not a dry eye in the place when it was done. It was a combination of old home movies & old pictures. Everything in chronological order.
Plan it an surprise them, that's fun. I did that for my mom's 70th birthday. I callled her sisters and booked a venue and then we held a mini "auction" with monopoly money because my mom was into auctions. I made up some baloney that she HAD to come to my work related party and she bought it, lol. We had a great time.
The boys were 2 when I threw my parents a 50th. Since they had never been to a really good steakhouse, we held it at Ruth's Chris. It was fantastic, and 5 years later they're still talking that steak.
My mother and her photographer friend put together a CD with pictures and music from each decade of their life together, in chronological order. My brother and I each got a copy. It was beautiful. They made sure pics of them with the people who were present at the party were included. The flood of memories brought tears. When the baby pictures came up, we whooped loudly, as did the boys when their baby pictures came up. Also, I gave a brief toast.
I also had a couple surprise guests that they did not know were coming. My niece, and my mom's friend from California. Quite a few people from California actually came out, but this one told her she wasn't going to be available. The granddaughter surprise brought my parents to their knees.

I know I will be having this in the church fellowship hall.
I am planning on it being a surprise.
The movie thing is a great idea.
I know the color scheme will be gold and cream with touches of blue, mom's favorite color.

Do they like sentimental stuff? If so, they may love for each guest to share a favorite memory. Someone could video the memories being told and make a DVD for your parents.

Do they have a wedding album? If so, scan and blow up as many of the photos as you can.
If you can get your hands on wedding photos of their parents, do that. I saw that at a similar party and it was a very nice touch.

A Vault? Have a space made to resemble the vault where pics can be taken.
What does that look like?

Start looking for gold balloons on line now - they're not easy to find. Groups of 3 - different heights - make a wonderfully festive atmosphere. Have them filled with helium early that morning.
What's your Dad's favorite cake? And your Mom's? Have a bakery do a two-layer combo. I used a spun-glass topper of inter-twined hearts with a "50" in the middle for my Aunt and Uncle's 50th.
I can get cupcakes, $10 a dozen and a 6 inch round for around $120.
A pretty cake stand and I think the cupcakes will be perfect.

Dad just informed me that he is going to "propose" again.
This just became a vow renewal and reception.

Use the event to get pictures of everyone so you can make a wonderful scrapbook -
Friends took one of the pictures of the couples original wedding and had it framed side by side with one taken at the party. They had the guests sign a matt for helping to frame the pictures. It was a great idea.

Didn't we have a thread, in which a couple did something like that. But one of the guests drew an inappropriate picture or something like that?
How horribe would that be.
