A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
It's more realistic for people who cook more than once or twice a week. Or worked full time and still cooked every meal.
I never cared for the table scaping though.
It always looked too busy.

There is nothing wrong with canned foods. It takes a tremendous amount of fossil fuels to have every sort of fresh produce available in all geographic locations at all times of the year.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
Or if you eat out. They used cannex lroducts. Martha Stewart was using canned tomatoes and canned olives and other ingredients. So you do not have a single canned product in your home?
I have pasta in a box, flour, sugar, olive oil etc. But nothing in a can. Sorry. Why is that so hard to believe?! I manage a natural-organic food co-op for heaven's sake. When I cook, I don't use ingredients with ingredients. I use food without a label, except for pasta noodles which I only make once or twice a year.
This is impressive.
I find it funny that people are giving you are hard time about not using canned food. Why does it matter to them?

Unless you are talking a diet of spaghetti o's and Campbell's soup, there is nothing wrong with using canned foods.
They are a source of inexpensive nutrition, especially when the fresh variations are not in season in that area.
People are dumb.
People are allowed to make their own choices about the food they consume.
Sure--but 9 times out of 10, the people who rail against things like canned food are the same ones who b!tch about our use of fossil fuels--despite the ENORMOUS amount of fossil fuels it takes to stock the grocery shelves with out of season produce.
DUMB
buying from a local farmers market? Awesome--but try getting tomatoes from one of those in Minnesota this time of year.

And that is why there are choices. People can can (in jars) their own tomatoes. They can buy them in cans, they can buy them in boxes, they can buy them from greenhouses, they can grow them in their kitchen with a grow light, and they can buy them from Argentina in the store.
If someone is willing to work for their food to keep from buying canned, that is not wrong.

I think you need to differentiate. People who choose to buy boxed tomatoes over canned is a non-issue related to that. People who can their own tomatoes are not being hypocritical.
Many people prefer fresh tomatoes to canned. This is a non-issue and the only reason I can think that people pick on others for these issues is that when someone says they don't eat canned tomatoes, it makes you feel judged and guilty about your own choices to eat canned vegetables. MM's decision not to eat canned vegetables has nothing to do with anyone else, so people questioning that choice have their own issues. Because I really don't think Gaga and Lily are questioning it b/c of concern over fossil fuels.

It's an old figure of speech. Whatever you called it - it went into glass jars, it didn't go into metal cans. You are actually going to argue about this? Not to mention - when you do it yourself, you know exactly what goes into it.

But what about real vegetables?
Green beans, squash, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, and fruit?
Yes. You can pick up enough for a meal or two at the store, but if you couldnt, what then?
And I'm not talking about time travel or something catastrophic happening.
What if there is a strike? Your fresh, organic produce doesn't get to those shelves. What will you do? Where will you get your veggies from?
Farmer's market? Well. Those are not always open.
What if we could only get what is seasonal for our area?
In the middle of the winter, you might want some green beans.
So that's when you pull out what you put up yourself or you buy it in a can.

And as for the rest - there is NOTHING wrong with "canning" your own sauces and vegetables. NOTHING. This "safe" issue you have is just an arguing point for you. People have been doing it for eons.

Some people care more than others about what food they eat.

I want to know where my food is coming from. No, i don't want to buy food from China.
Every piece of produce you eat must have a COOL. Country of Origin Label. It's the law. All you have to do is read the little stickers on the produce. Meat doesnt have the country on it, but has the company name on it.
I do. I am not so concered about fresh fruits and veggies. Meat, i do look at. But, prepared or canned ingredients i would like to know. China doesn't really give a crap what they put in their food.
A canned food runs the risk of contamination regardless of where it's made. I really wouldn't eat anything from a can or a box these days. Almost all of the things in cans/boxes are made in country because the cost of shipping it, already made and boxed across the ocean is too cost prohibitive.
You never eat anything from a can? You dont use canned broth or occasion? Or , use any food that is prepared in anyway? There are canned goods being shipped to this country.
No. I don't eat anything from a can. I make my own broth and have it in the freezer in ready to use portions. I don't eat canned soup, I make my own. I make spaghetti sauce from tomatoes in the fall. I don't eat food from a can.
Except for when you do.
This is what I'm talking about. Who the hell do you think you are?
Having an opinion about what "I" eat, and each person having an opinion and making choices for themselves about what they are going to eat is none of your damn business. And if Mellow Momma says she doesn't eat canned food - who the hell are you do say she does?
And then you bitch when someone else questions you. You are the one who has the problem with hypocrisy.

Because as I said, unless you make everything you eat, I mean from the earth to the table, yourself, you are eating additives and preservatives of some kind.
Yes. You can be as diligent as you possibly can and eliminate as much as possible. But you will never be completely free of it.
I was being mocked and made fun of cause I said that I know where a lot of my food comes from.
But because I use a cream of something, well how could I care?

I hear a lot about sauces and broths being canned and frozen on the board.
Frozen.
Frozen?
Not always available.
Sigh. You can freeze all those fruits and vegetables.
The ones you bought when?
????? Seriously? You don't think you can freeze the fruits and vegetables you buy locally when they are in season?
Look - just because you can't be bothered to do something, to plan ahead, or to make something from scratch, does not mean other people have that same problem.

She said she doesn't eat canned food and you make the assumption that can't possibly be true. Unlike you, I rarely - if ever - have heard her talk about eating out, taking short-cuts or otherwise. Some people DO know where all their food comes from. Don't project your eating habits onto others.

Over the last two years since I have been cooking from scratch I don't like the taste of canned food. I have a small amount in my pantry. But I don't like it and my family doesn't like it. People who don't cook from scratch don't think it makes a difference. I can tell you my family eats a lot of dishes now that they wouldn't eat before. Instant rice, boxed mac and cheese, and many other dishes. Couldn't get them to eat them. Now I make the same dishes from scratch and they eat them. Also, canned peas are just disgusting IMO.

The arrogance from you is palpable.
So you prepare everything you eat, from the earth to the table, every single day?
I dont. I never claimed to.

There is a difference.
A big difference.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.

Where did I claim to? It's all about choices and doing the best you can in the world we live in.
But your arrogance that someone else could not possibly not eat canned food is glaring. And you basically called her a liar.

I don't have to assume. I've seen your posts about food.
