OK, i went to the .gov website for my State, PA. And you can search the unclaimed inheritance data base. There are some relatives on there who have unclaimed inheritences. It doesn't say how much, just more than $100. Now, i know that i am related to some of these folks. And, that they didnt' have children. One of them is my dad's Aunt. And, my dad is gone and most of the relatives on his side are gone. So , i don't know if any distant relatives can make a claim and if so how would you go about it?
It's the patreasury . gov website. You will see a box for unclaimed property. I have several dead relatives on there that i am related too somehow. They didn't have much family but i really didn't know any of them only to know that i am related somehow.
Got it now. There is a yellow button that you click on to request a claim form. Fill it out and indicate "heir" where it asks "claiming as". I would think if there was a question as to your relationship or entitlement they would investigate further.
My mom is a paralegal and does this when she is doing an estate. She looks up the person's name in all the states they have lived in to make sure all the money is collected before they close the estate. She just fills out the form on the websites. She emailed me last year to tell me I was on the Ohio list. Apparently an old "no fee" bank account with $50 in it of mine was closed for inactivity and the state was holding my money.

But i dont really know how i am related to them. I dont really know the family tree.
Well if you don't know how you are related to the person, you can't be sure you are entitled to the inheritance. I would say you need to nail down your family tree first.

Yes. I dont know. I know that one is my dad's aunt and she had no children . spouse etc. But not sure how to prove that.
Well if it's your dad's aunt, it's your great aunt. I think if you say what your relationship is, it's on them to decide if you warrant the inheritance or not.
