It's a chilly 34 here. Heading for a high of about 50.

None of the S word in the forecast, thank goodness!

Stay warm, everyone!smile

Weather is headed up to a nice high of 34 today. It is sunny now but a small storm is expected to roll in and bring 1-2 inches of snow overnight. Just a preview of what we are supposed to get Friday into Saturday. They are calling for anywhere between 4" and 24", possibly more. It all depends on which way the storm tracks. We probably won't know until Friday morning more closely what is expected to come down. Get your milk, bread and eggs. It's french toast time.

I wanted to get work done in the attic and basement. It is too cold in both places. Well, the kitchen will be better organized when I am done with it.

It is bone cold here today but at least the wind has died down. My coworker brought me the moistest blueberry muffin. She got it from Safeway. I was surprised.

I need to run by the liquor store & I'll be set. I ran by the vet yesterday & got more cat food so they won't starve. My bff brought me a container of ice melt this morning since I am out. Just hoping we don't lose electric. My boss said she heard that they are expecting a lot of outages. My lines are underground so as long as a power station doesn't go it should be good.

Are you all set?

I think so. I worry about power outages, too. The power in our development is underground, but right outside the development it's above ground leading to the power station. We seem to get outages a lot. When we lived in our condo at the Reston Town Center, we never had to worry about such things.

Other than that, my milk & veggies will be delivered Thursday and I'm pretty sure we have what we need, as long as no one gets hurt or sick. I always hold my breath about that when we have snow or ice.

Good thing you already had your order in. I bet they are getting slammed with orders since the storm was announced. I only needed a few things so I piggy-backed onto my friend's order last Sunday. We do that often. It works out great for both of us.

Morning, I use that term loosely.

So the massive winter storm that required a declaration of a state of emergency hasn't been very impressive until about an hour ago.

Just flurries before daylight.

But the sleeting and freezing rain has started now.

Businesses are closing in town.

Hope ya'll stay safe and warm.

From USA Today:

Fueled by a combination of the natural El Niño climate pattern and man-made global warming, 2015 was the planet's warmest year since records began in 1880, federal scientists announced Wednesday.

The average temperature across the Earth's land and ocean surfaces was 1.62 degrees above average in 2015, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It was largest margin by which an annual global temperature record has ever been broken, NOAA said.

1880? Wow. I wonder about the 1000 years before that.

Apparently several factors contribute to the creation of the ice age.   Higher concentrations of CO2 are one factor, as well as changes in the earth's orbit around the sun, the motion of the tectonic plates, variations in solar output, the orbital dynamics of the earth-moon system, the impact of large meteorites, and volcanisms.  Many scientists believe the Tibetan and Colorado plateaus "scrubbed" CO2  and was significant in the cause of the ice age 40 million years ago.  And most of their scrubbing power occurred in the last 10 million years.

While "global warming" is real and quite fascinating, I do not believe driving an electric car or giving up aerosols is going to have much impact.   We could, however, plant more trees.     Global warming is not man-made.

I hope you get better soon, Czech!  The boys are hanging in there.  #2 still just has some nasal congestion, which I've been able to manage with claritan and occasionally, afrin.

The grand's do seem to love to "share".  wink

Thanks, Lexxy.

The poor little boy was so sick yesterday, that I spent almost all of my time either holding him, trying to get him to drink, or worrying about his high fever. Momma did take him to the doctor, he got two shots and two medications. He cried so much and it breaks my heart when he is so sick. He will always have problems because of his birth damage to his lungs, but gosh, he suffers.

And, I would rather have the grand's around to "share" then not have them around. smile

You sound like my mom, Czech. She doesn't mind catching their bugs, but after we almost lost my father a few years ago to pneumonia which he got from the boys, I won't let them be around the boys when the boys are ill. But my parents are a lot older and take longer to recover from minor ailments.

What kind of lung trouble did your GS have, if you don't mind me asking? It's no secret that I've had my share of lung issues with #2, but recently his dentist said #2 has a very large uvula and excess tissue in that area, leading him to wonder if he might be grinding his teeth due to sleep apnea. Doubtful though, because #2 has no problems with his sleep, but I wonder if this excess tissue might be contributing to him coughing more when he gets a cold, as opposed to any lung issues previously thought. At any rate, with chest percussion and postural drainage, I have been able to keep him off steroids or any other kind of prescribed medication. So yay for that.

I have all-weather tires and 4WD on my Sienna, but I don't drive in snow anyway. I've tried over the years, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I get panicked. So I stay home until the roads are safe. DH on the other hand, is a very good all weather driver and my chauffeur on snowy days if I must venture out.

In my teens & 20s I always drove Mustangs which had big engines, light rear end & rear wheel drive. The worst possible combination for driving in the snow. I wrecked every one of them in snow conditions. Nothing major just usually sliding off the road into a ditch. So now even though I have an SUV with 4WD I'm very nervous driving in the snow. My boss has to drive a fair distance home on some back roads so she always sends us home at the first flakes.

My first year back here I slid into a ditch with my Jeep Grand Cherokee, all wheel drive. I was able to back it out and no damage occurred. I slid at a four-way stop in it, too, but fortunately did not hit anyone or anything. Then there was the incident with my Volvo convertible. Tried to go up my steep driveway and rolled backwards into the drainage ditch. Also had problems making it up the hill to my house, but my next-door neighbor who was also having problems, talked me down and helped me get through it. Again, no damage, but enough of a reminder to stay home.

DH's grandma got DS a furby. I want to throw that thing off a tall bridge and smash it. I never had one but always thought they were cute. Nope. It doesn't have an off switch and only shuts up when you stop interacting with it long enough. It may lose its batteries soon.

We had several of those things.

They would talk to each other constantly if out in the light.

I put one in the pantry, playing a joke on the kids. When you opened the door, it would say "surprise" or "hello" or something like that.

Before long, all of them were in there.

A little gang of furry hanging out on a pantry shelf.

I don't mind you asking what happened, FNW. When DGS was born, the birth fluid was forced into his lungs accidently. He was in the NICU for five days, on oxygen with tubes to remove the fluid from his lungs. Mom and dad didn't get to hold him until he was three days old. He was a very sick baby. He had an NG tube for feeding as well. It was painful to watch him struggle to breath during that time.

When he gets sick, it always goes to his lungs. Yeah, he gets his back beat a lot, lol. He has a nebulizer as well.

When he is healthy, he does great. But when a bug hits, wow, poor kid. I hope he will outgrow the problems, but I have my doubts. He will always be at risk.

DD doesn't take her kids to see my mom, when one of the kids are sick either. She's almost 80 now, and we don't want to risk her health. Mom seems to think that when she is here, we shouldn't worry about it, but we do.

Glad you have been able to keep your son off steroids. Hope you have that large uvula and excess tissue looked at by an ENT.

FNW, you've probably said and I just don't remember, do you have an ENT?

When Jesse had his toncils and adenoids out, the doctor "shaved" down tissue in his throat and uvula.

He did some more "sculpting" when Jesse had the sinus reconstruction.

I don't think it's too uncommon.

Yes, they have been to an ENT. The ENT performed the larynoscopy when #2 was a few months old to figure out the cause of his barky cough. He was diagnosed with tracheamalaysia which he has outgrown, supposedly. It's been a few years since he's been back. Last time he saw the ENT, it was for his ears.

Did you notice whether recover from a cold sped up after his shaving, Lily?

Not only did he get over things more quickly, he has had very few sinus issues at all since.

I'm talking maybe one a year and it's over in a week and he will not take anything unless he is just miserable now.
