GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Gainesville Police Department got a call from someone about kids playing basketball too loudly in the streets recently and released video of what happened during the call.
Officer White was the police officer dispatched to the call. "You believe someone's calling to complain about kids playing basketball in the street?" he asked a boy holding a basketball when he arrived. "I don't know who called, but obviously, I ain't got no problem with it," said Officer White as he grabs the basketball and takes a shot (and misses.) "That's a nice hoop," Officer White says.
Minutes later, more kids come out. "Oh no, now you brought back up," he says. And more kids join in, and after a few minutes, even more.
After playing basketball for a little while with the kids, Officer White says he has to go, and he asks them not to be too loud and tells them to have fun. But before he leaves, he says he'll be back with backup to get another game going the next day.
"We're going to let kids be kids," said Gainesville police in their video that's been shared thousands of times. "We're going to focus on the ones that commit crimes," they said.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Former NBA all-star Shaquille O'Neal stopped by Gainesville Saturday afternoon to meet the officer who responded to a complaint of kids playing basketball 'loudly' in the street and started playing with them. The video quickly went viral.
"Well, Shaq surprised us and dropped by GPD this afternoon," the organization wrote on a Facebook post.
The original post of the video has been shared well over 200,000 times on Facebook and has thousands of comments praising the organization and the officer.
Officer White stopped on January 15 to play basketball with the kids. On Saturday, GPD hinted they were bringing in 'back up' to play next time.
It turns out that back up was none other than Shaq!
The photos show officers, Shaq and kids in the neighborhood playing in the same area.
"More importantly, [Shaq] heard that Ofc. White was planning to bring backup to challenge the kids to a street game. These kids will never forget the day Shaq rolled up to their house to play ball," the police department posted on Facebook.
He can be seen in photos signing autographs and taking pictures with local residents.

But I hope Shaq doesn't overshadow what that officer did.
That's the story.

I saw this in different spots and it was really nice and heart warming.
