Home Ec was taught in our Junior High which went thru 9th grade. High School was for grades 10-12. I only had it in ninth grade and missed having it in earlier years. I went to Catholic school thru eighth grade.
We had child development in high school which was the same as NJNs. Most of the 15 kids there were children of students. The children stayed the same but the students changed every two semesters (we had 4 semesters per school year).
Oh no, I don't know if it was because I grew up in a wealthier neighborhood (yes, I know those kids have sex too) or because I am 50 and back then it was just not acceptable but in my whole entire school there was only one girl who had a baby. One. It was taboo and not the norm. We didn't even have an alternative school back then. When you got expelled you just got expelled.

So did we. Loved wood working and home Ec. I already knew how to sew and so I was able to do a lot of projects at school that were not in the lesson plan. One year I sewed most of my summer clothes, including a bathing suit. I even made my friends cute tops.
FNW, my sis who is in the DC area has a neighborhood co owned snow blower. After then did their driveways, they made paths to each other's houses, mazes crisscrossing the street. It looked really cool. They still can't get out though.

Yeah, we're talking about gathering all people with blowers and blow the street. But a bobcat is in the 'hood now, so hopefully they'll make it up to our house. We're a mile from where they are now.

Same here. We had one girl who got pregnant. One. I remember her to this day. She got knocked up sophomore year and then again senior year. The second time, everyone just looked at her with disappointment. She didn't learn a darn thing. People actually said things to her like "don't you know how that happens yet?!" But then, I didn't learn from her mistake either because a year after high school, I got pregnant too.

Same here. I remember her well. She had long dark brown hair and she wore her football b/f's class ring. She was sure she was going to live happily ever after. She was a senior though.

Only had 2 get pregnant in my school all through high school. One was in my class and the most popular girl. Her baby was born just as our Senior year started. She gave him up for adoption, which was a good choice at that time. The mother never had another child and didn't marry until in her 40's.
The other girl was a year behind me, got pregnant as a freshman, gave birth as a sophomore and her mother raised him. Mom got married out of high school and had 7 more kids.
No one got expelled for getting pregnant. It was rather a double standard for the father to stay in school while the girl got kicked out. People were very verbal about the double standard in our area, back then.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.
This thread definitely took an interesting turn. :)
It most definitely did! My comment about alternative schools wasn't about being pregnant though. Back when I was in high school if you did something bad and got expelled you just stayed home. A lot of schools where I live now have alternative schools kids can go to. It's almost like prison school.

One was a friend, she had her baby and came back to school. Raised her and that child is now a college graduate and is working in third world countries to build and maintain fresh water sources.
The second got married our junior year and pregnant our senior year. That baby was born after graduation. Not sure what came of him or them.
When Caitlyn was in 9th grade, there were about 15 girls in the school pregnant.
Aaron's 8th grade class had a pregnant girl at the beginning of the school year. That baby's first day of kindergarten will be it's mom's senior year.

I rather liked going to the alternative school. It was work at your pace, accelerated course work. Most of the kids there were there because they had spent time in jail or had a baby.
I didn't have any friends who got pregnant in high school, but I'm sure there were at least a few in a class of 2200.
A friend's younger sister started actively trying to get pregnant when she turned 11. She could not be dissuaded or stopped. She finally had a baby when she was 14.

We only had one, too. And it was quite shocking and weird. They got married while in school, had the baby, and then got an annulment. I had to wonder if she lied about the kid being his and that's how he got an annulment.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
We had one girl get prego and they sent her to a school for bad kids. My BFF got married in our senior year, but we kept it on the QT so she wouldn't be sent to that other school. She had graduated before she got pregnant. I had another friend who got prego several times but aborted. She now has three kids and has been happily married over 30 years.
We had a high rate of pregnant/already gave birth at the time of graduation. Out of over 2,000 students total in the high school, there were 72 who were pregnant or gave birth (all three grades) when I graduated.
