Today I am spending the day in the kitchen cooking. We have a busy week ahead of us and I will be cooking our meals tonight to last the week. We scouted out the dining hall menu and will eat there 2 nights, so I will make enough for the other 3-4 days. The kitchen will be a wreck all day, but I will be SO happy I did it when I get home from work late.

Hope you and little man feel better, Czech.

I have a headache and I'm grumpy.  I need to do some blessing-counting.  It is a beautiful day (we're having more liquid sunshine here, which is most welcome in the drought), I'm gainfully employed, I have loved-ones everywhere I look, I'm healthy, my car is reliable, my flowers are blooming...

And maybe some pain reliever is in order, LOL. smile

I didn't get nearly as much done at work yesterday as I needed to, so I should go back today. I don't see that happening.

Went shopping and bought cute new boots last night. Then Olive Garden for dinner. It was funny, my dad was eagerly awaiting left overs. But I really didn't want to share. So I ordered exactly what I had gotten to-go and brought it to him lol

Today also marks 3 years since my grandma died. I can't believe it's been 3 years. I still think about her every day. And so wish she was here for me to plop down on the couch and tell all my worries to. I can still hear her voice as she started her advice/lecture to whatever I was puzzled about "oh Kris..."

Hope all who are sick get better quick.
Hope all who are sad find something that make you glad.
And if your time is pressed, hope you find time to rest.

It's going to rain. Sometime between now and Tuesday evening.

Those boots are cute.

Did anyone catch up to that convoy that ran me over last night, twice. I only had two mild drinks. But I was moving around almost all day yesterday. My back and feet hurts and I am lucky to still have a voice since I was busy singing and talking all night.

DJ/Karaoke Party was a success. We had just enough people to cover paying for the food and have a small amount for donation. Hopefully the next one will be more people now that this was successful. But there was a ton of food leftover. As usual, I over shopped. But I would rather have too much food than not enough. But we brought home minimal leftovers since I gave it away to several friends who still have kids at home. They won't be cooking today.

Today is catch up day. Catch up on chores, catch up on sleep.

so far they are pretty comfy too.  I'm wearing them around the house to get them properly broken in.  On the expensive side, but worth it.  I figured some retail therapy was in order.

it also seems I have totally shed what was left of the city girl biggrin

We have kind of strict rules at our house about tv.  We usually spend at least two hours together as a family at night watching tv.  At home he watches tv or plays XBOX and doesn't do his homework.  And he's got to read so many books each six weeks.  Which he doesn't do at home.  The tv rules for our house are, You can play PS3 kinnect where you are interacting with the game (up and moving around) in the morning.  Or you can read.  No sitting in front of the tv watching cartoons.  Which is what he did.  So he got grounded from movie night.  I felt so bad but he needed to learn.

My lovely daughter is trying to talk me into letting her bring home a couple of turtles.

Why? They live forever. And they can get huge.

I wouldn't get a bunch of them. My SIL had one for her kids. The tank got so dirty so fast. She finally got rid of it. I've heard, and I don't know how true this is, that they grow according to their environment. So apparently, if this is true, they won't grow as big in a tank then if they were kept in a pond. They do live a long time. You have to make sure you wash your hands really well after handling them because they carry a lot of diseases. About a year ago we had a couple deaths in little kids who handled them and the parents didn't make them wash their hands.

It depends on the breed. Some turtles stay small and don't live as long. And for the record, the ones that live for hundreds of years and get huge are tortoises.

Thanks DG. I wasn't sure if that fact was true or not. I'm not a turtle or tortoise expert!

That is not exactly true. Turtles and tortoises continue to grow their whole lives. They are never technically full grown. If you house a turtle or tortoise is a habitat that is too small, it will stunt their growth and shorten their lives. In other words, they will only grow to the size of their tanks, but because they will die before getting to continue growing.

I would say I am just shy of an expert. I had one myself for about 5 years. And I was a "pet care specialist" for nearly five years at Petsmart.

When people think of the giant tortoises they usually picture the Galapogos Tortoise.  They live for well over 100 years and weigh in the neighborhood of 900lbs. There is also the Sulcata Tortoise, which is a popular pet. Also can leave over 100 years and weighs in around 200-300 lbs as an adult. I used to get so upset at reptile shows. They would have baby Sulcata tortoises for sale. They would be maybe 2-3" big and you could hold in your hand. Many of the breeders never said anything about that this pet was a lifelong commitment and got over 200 lbs.

ETA: there are also giant sea turtles. They get huge. However, I have never heard of giant sea turtles being pets. It would be extremely costly to keep them as a pet Due to their size and housing needs.

Our local pet shop had one of those Galapogos Tortoises. That sucker was huge. They just let it roam the shop. The kids loved it. They hosted birthday parties there too and let the kids touch it. I think it got sold.

Wow DG, I am very impressed! You know a lot about those turtles. I learned so much about sea Tortoises when I vacationed in Costa Rica. I had the privilege of witnessing a sea turtle walk up the beach, dig a hole and lay her eggs. She was 6 feet across, a very large creature. I will never forget that experience. As lawless as Costa Rica can be,the one amazing thing they do is patrol the beach with AK 47s to defend the tortoise; their shells can fetch them thousands of dollars.

It's 60 and the heat just came on.

It's got to be 70 in this house.

But will those who are cold put a pair of pajama pants on? A light sweater?

No.

Shorts and spaghetti straps are the clothing of choice.
