Could it be that this is the only thing in their lives the have to be proud of?

I actually don't remember if they cancelled school in Indy. Actually, it may have been due to the fact that the game runs so late & they figured a lot of kids wouldn't show up anyway.

But you're right: sports are King in Indy. You should have heard the griping when they constructed a new library downtown...The Horror!

They told us it was because no bus drivers would come to work the next day. They year before all the bus drivers called in sick (or hungover) and there were not enough subs. I think that's a pretty poor excuse as well, but that's just me.

DD goes on road trips regularly, missing days of school. Sometimes they get home at 4 am. She goes to class at 8am, no excuses. That's the way it should be. School first, sports second.

I'm trying to come to terms with the bus drivers being to hung over to work the day after the Super Bowl. Are they hiring morons?

I am now the proud owner of a 65" LG 4-something TV. I spent more than I planned, but not more than I can afford.

My parents are now quibbling about where to stop to eat. I vote just go home, but I don't really get a vote

I know, isnt it great?? It's replacing a 55" old school TV from the 80s. The main room in the basement is large and open, so I really couldn't go much smaller and be able to see it from all the places I sit.

I'm so excited

Actually, where she goes to school, her sport is 2 class periods a day and is on her schedule. It is part of school, and she gets graded on her effort and her results. On her report card. So it isn't an oxymoron at all. Her away trips are considered field trips, just like when the biology kids go to the Mayo Clinic for the week to observe medical procedures and miss all their other classes.

She misses the classes while she is gone, but when she returns, she doesn't skip because she is tired. She goes to school, regardless of when they get home. While she is on the road, she has the ability to dial into the school's system and watch the classes she missed when she has time. Each class is video'ed and put online so the kids who are out of the classroom for activities can still be instructed. So when she is on the road, she still takes every class just like everyone else.

My whole point is that when she arrives home, no matter what time it is, she goes to class. She attends all classes she is physically able to. No matter how tired she is. No matter what time they got home.

The basement was designed as an entertainment area, so the main space is large and open. It has a seating area, an eating area and a bar. The placement of the TV is such is is able to be seen from all over.

The skating rink and toboggan run at Beaver Lake are closed.  The Rideau Canal in Ottawa is closed to skaters. Outdoor rinks are closed.

Snowmobilers and ice fishers are crashing through thin ice and drowning.

It's too damn warm.

Bunny just lost his first tooth! It's been very loose for about a month and he pulled it himself today.
Is $10 too much for a first tooth? He doesn't get an allowance and has been making plans for this windfall for a while now.
I was thinking $5 for each subsequent tooth. I think I got a dollar a tooth.

Did y'all do the tooth fairy? How much did you give/get?

We gave five dollars a tooth.  Even for the first one.  My SS was terrified when he lost his first tooth.  He had never been told he was going to lose teeth.

Be prepared if you do that.. they lose teeth at the most inopportune times, lol. You might be running to get cash late at night.

We got a quarter as kids.

My kids got a dollar.

Unless it was a special tooth.

Capped got $2.

If the dentist pulled it, $5.

That only happened once.

No. Again, sports are a class on her school schedule and when she misses her other classes for a tournament it's like missing class for a field trip. It might be that this situation is too complex for you to understand as you seem to keep deliberately misinterpreting what I say - and I am explaining it pretty clearly.

I did not like an entire school district calling school off for a professional sporting event that took place the day before.  I thought that was ridiculous. The children in the district were not playing in the Super Bowl, they were watching it on TV. That should not interfere with them going to school the following day.

Not sure why you are trolling me today, but it says a lot more about you than it does about me. Carry on.

So, if you PLAY sports, its ok to miss class...but if you are a fan, its not ok. Hmmm...THAT says a lot more about you...and perfectly shows the hypocrisy that sports parents employ...

So, if you PLAY sports, its ok to miss class...but if you are a fan, its not ok. Hmmm...THAT says a lot more about you...and perfectly shows the hypocrisy that sports parents employ...

You want to hear about hypocrisy?

You saying that if you can't afford to get ripped off at a restaurant, then you should be eating ramen at home.

Meanwhile, you were smuggling booze on board your cruise.

If you can't afford the cruise ship liquor prices, you shouldn't be taking cruises. Stay home and drink.

How's that for hypocrisy?

I'm still trying to figure out why all the bus drivers need to call in sick and hungover. That would not be acceptable in most jobs.

At work. It took me two hours to sort out my boss' expense report. Sigh. Still a couple hours to go on other projects

Oh, and dear, we didnt smuggle. They allowed us to bring our booze on board. Thats the cool thing about not having to go through security. ...
