And somehow I totally missed that the game is so early. Good thing as the president's assistant I don't have any web restrictions and can listen at work.

Of course she was. It's what she does.  But, the game itself.  I don't watch.  I don't care.  I like the championship games then i really don't care who wins.

You want to hear about hypocrisy?

You saying that if you can't afford to get ripped off at a restaurant, then you should be eating ramen at home.

Meanwhile, you were smuggling booze on board your cruise.

If you can't afford the cruise ship liquor prices, you shouldn't be taking cruises. Stay home and drink.

How's that for hypocrisy?

I wonder if I'm allowed to comment?

OK ignorant here, I figured that was Adele.  Gaga did a fantastic job!  She is probably still in the dressing room getting that layer of red sparkle pealed off her eyelids.  Which, BTW, looked awesome!

I'm watching X Men 2.
I have no interest in the SB, even the commercials. They're still trying to sell me something.
I don't care how much they dress it up.

I remember people missing school because they went to a concert the night before.

The concerts in the 80s were the best.

But the school district did not cancel school for the next day becasue there was a concert the night before.

I thought Gaga was tremendous! It might be my favorite rendition of the national anthem ever.

I am not a huge Beyoncé fan. But I kind of like that she just puts her legs out there and doesn't care if people think they are big or chubby or whatever. She is unapologetic about who she is. And I like that.

I don't think her legs are big or chubby or anything. I just, personally, think a well dressed person is more attractive than a half dressed one.

Just found out my brother, with seven kids, just married a woman with five kids. That's a lot of kids.

DN and Sparkly brought Ava over. She is all puppy. We let her out back and she ran and ran. Then the boys took her for a walk. Then she came in and ran a circle around the sofa at top speed. Our three dogs sat back, out of her way, and watched her run. I have never seen a dog run that fast. Until Sparkly put his hand down and she ran head first into his hand. LOL So funny. He made her stop running.

I am not close to my family at all.  The news I hear is all through the grapevine.  I had heard a few months ago that he was wanting a divorce from his first and only wife.  They were deeply in debt and he was actually still living in the house with her while the divorce went through.  About a month or two later I asked if anyone had heard anything because it surprised me that he was divorcing.  He's a minister and stands very firm on no divorce.  This was back in about November.  In December I saw some pictures of a lady and her five children at my parents house on Christmas eve.  Then I realized this was his g/f.  I just found out about the marriage today.  So I did know the kids were there.  The kids are young.  Elementary school age.  His kids range from the same age to one in college.

My mom took me out of school to meet Ronald Reagan when he was on his campaign trail to become President. She also took me out of school to meet Gerald Ford. She felt experiencing history was more important than reading about it later. But for concerts or sports? Nope.

8th grade mom took me out to go witness the first tribal meeting between the east and west Cherokee tribes since the Trail of Tears at the old council grounds just up the road from here.

The vice principal nearly busted a nut over that.

I don't care if kids miss school now and then. We all need days off sometimes.

As long as it isn't a constant thing and the kid is up on all his work, it shouldn't be a big deal.

But here, you have to use those days very carefully.

Because even with a 4.0, if you miss a certain number of hours, you fail the class anyway.

And I don't think that's right at all.

I think sports in school are great.  But I also think schools have gone overboard with it.  There is no reason to schedule games during school hours, and I don't think kids should be missing school to play ball.  But that's the schools' stupid system - not the parents'.

If I am understanding this right.

The sport in this case is a class. Just like science or pe.

It's part of the schedule.

The drama department at our school will take the whole day to go to Atlanta for a play.

The band goes to competitions.

The language classes go to culture days.

The golf team, swim team and ball teams go to games.

I don't see the big deal.

Field trips don't usually happen on a regular basis - we're talking a couple of times a year.  Band competitions are maybe once or twice a year, and many times on Saturdays.  Sports get scheduled all the time.  And I have never heard of a "basketball class" for the basketball team, have you?

Yes. Our football team when I was growing up had two periods of "sports" class at the end of the day. The last two classes of the day for them were an elective and a "PE" class. So they essentially ended up using the last two periods to practice.

Let me try one last time. When she misses class for sports, it's considered a field trip because her sport IS a class. So it's just like missing class for a trip to a museum or a trip to watch an opera. And yes, that is different than sitting at home on the couch and watching tv and then not going to school the next day because of it. There is no reason to miss school the day after watching tv. There IS a reason to miss school if you are participating in an activity that requires you to participate during the school day - whether that activity is sports, or singing, or acting in a play, or delivering a speech in front of the state senate. I am behind all of those instances and think each one is deserving of missing a day of school. I still think it is idiotic to miss school because the night before you were watching tv.

Again, I doubt you will be able to see the difference as you are having a rough time comprehending the situation. But that's ok. My world will continue to turn just fine.

 Yes. Actually I have.

It replaces P.E. it is usually in private schools though.

Mine did that.

Yes. Our football team when I was growing up had two periods of "sports" class at the end of the day. The last two classes of the day for them were an elective and a "PE" class. So they essentially ended up using the last two periods to practice.

Two hours of classes for football?  See, that's ridiculous.

Yes.  Two classes of football.  I grew up in Chicago and my school was very different than the ones here.  But that's the way it was.  We had nine 50 minute periods a day.  You could also enroll in the work study program and use your last four hours of the day going to work.  However, there were stipulations.  It had to be an approved job where you were actually learning something.  Not just say, sacking groceries or flipping burgers.  A lot of the girls went to beauty school.

Why? If it is one elective class and one P.E. class. I don't see why not.

Instead of taking art, they take the sport class.

I remember using an elective for weight lifting.

It was the only class for it and you had to be approved to take it.

Yeah, I don't get it either.  Instead of taking shop and PE they just took two PE's.  And we had some away games where the football players had to leave at noon.  Our band and choir and several other things would go on field trips for the day.  They were always approved absences but you were responsible for making your work up.

The principal addressed absences the other day in her monthly newsletter. Apparently it's become a problem, parents taking their children out of school for vacations.

They have PE, that other hour should be used for a learning class - not additional practice for an extracurricular activity.  No wonder our students are behind so many other countries.

And an extra our of PE teaches what, exactly, that they don't already learn in the hour they have or in after-school practice?

I remember when I was in school, boys could take up to 2 weeks off to go hunting.  The girls started saying they were going "hunting", too.  After all, shopping is just hunting for stuff.

Once in a while - fine.  But sports have entire seasons, and kids shouldn't be missing other classes on a weekly basis to go to games.  A tournament?  Fine.  A regular game?  No.  They need to schedule better.
