Did anyone else find that "fall in love with nature" commercial disturbing? WTF? Are they trying to normalize bestiality now? Ugh.

So, if you PLAY sports, its ok to miss class...but if you are a fan, its not ok. Hmmm...THAT says a lot more about you...and perfectly shows the hypocrisy that sports parents employ...

Let me try one last time. When she misses class for sports, it's considered a field trip because her sport IS a class. So it's just like missing class for a trip to a museum or a trip to watch an opera. And yes, that is different than sitting at home on the couch and watching tv and then not going to school the next day because of it. There is no reason to miss school the day after watching tv. There IS a reason to miss school if you are participating in an activity that requires you to participate during the school day - whether that activity is sports, or singing, or acting in a play, or delivering a speech in front of the state senate. I am behind all of those instances and think each one is deserving of missing a day of school. I still think it is idiotic to miss school because the night before you were watching tv.

Again, I doubt you will be able to see the difference as you are having a rough time comprehending the situation. But that's ok. My world will continue to turn just fine.

You can back peddle all you want. When a child misses class for a sporting event, then yes, sports are more important than education. Its really quite simple. I wonder how many tournaments she has missed for school functions. Im willing to bet the house that has never happened.

So just keep right on. The hypocrisy knows no bounds...

I liked Coldplay and Bruno Mars. Could have done without Beyoncé. Would it kill her to wear pants??

Okay, that qualifies for the hall of fame!  HAHAHA

Two hours of classes for football?  See, that's ridiculous.

Why? If it is one elective class and one P.E. class. I don't see why not.

Instead of taking art, they take the sport class.

I remember using an elective for weight lifting.

It was the only class for it and you had to be approved to take it.

They have PE, that other hour should be used for a learning class - not additional practice for an extracurricular activity.  No wonder our students are behind so many other countries.

So you would rather they sit through an art class?

That extra hour can help gain a scholarship.

There are at least 2 class periods with electives.

That means the child picks the interest.

I'm surprised the Broncos won, since the odds were on the Panthers.

Cam Newton just didn't bring his A game. He looked really off.

I'm happy for Peyton.

GO BRONCOS!!! I'm glad Manning played FOR his team this year rather than for the opposing team like he did two years ago. I thought the Panthers would win given their strong showing against the Cardinals and overall stellar season but it felt like they didn't bother showing up yesterday. Could've done without #21, I think it was, on the Broncos being unsportsmanlike - 3 personal fouls - sheesh!

Yes, I agree. I'm wondering if he didn't psych himself out...this IS the Super Bowl, after all.

Cam will have his turn, I'm sure!

I am pleasantly surprised, Blankie. I so wanted Peyton to win...and the rest of the players, of course.

What I find interesting ...

Janet Jackson's boob accidentally getting exposed caused a huge uproar. Oh the horror!

Beyonce's outfit (presumably selected on purpose) a few years back all but showed her nether regions and no one makes a peep. Her outfit yesterday was slightly better.

Go figure.

Even my 7 year old gasped and giggled at Beyonce.

Personally, I thought her nether region outfit a few years ago was inappropriate for family TV. But I do think it's time for her to retire the leotards. They just aren't flattering on her anymore.

And JJ's boob wasn't accidentally exposed. It was all planned.

So can good grades in college prep courses.  And then they might have something to fall back on when they can't play football, anymore.

All I remember was the reports saying it was accidental and characterized as a wardrobe malfunction.

Yes, I think that's where "wardrobe malfunction" came from. But I don't believe it was an accident.

 Quite possible it wasn't.

Either way, if a boob is somehow so very wrong, then all but showing one's nether regions should be wrong too.

These kids do both - academic AND athletic. They cannot have a C in any class as in order to play. I don't mean a C average, I mean if they have one class in which they have a C, they cannot participate until the grade goes back up to a B. And being away or missing school is not an excuse to not turn in an assignment on time. They either turn it in electronically on time or they must turn it in early. They are NOT permitted to turn it in when they get back.

MAnd most assuredly, these kids are NOT behind compared to other kids their age. One of DD's teammates was just awarded a patent for a medical device she invented and another teammate was admitted to MIT while DD is having a book published this summer. So these kids are doing it all and then some.

DH tells each parent and student on their initial visit - if you want to get a scholarship for college, the best thing you can do for yourself is study. And if they cannot manage both, you can bet he sits their behind on the bench and leaves them at home.

That's great.   But there are a lot of parents and coaches that don't care.

And I never once said I was speaking for all parents and coaches. I only speak for my family and for the kids I see every day here. Even though some would pretend they know what happens here, you have no idea. These kids are hyper focused.
