Absolutely what? There is oil coming our of our asses and we want to pretend it is scarce and charge people more? Oh ok. Maybe if gas was cheap like it used to be, then entrepenerial people would do what they do? Oh yeah, we want govt to wipe our asses. My bad.

Holy cow!  I once thought you were very astute.  But thinking that low oil prices are a great thing for everyone and for everything is just, well, stupid.

AND as you said there's a huge difference between oil being low and then the politicians sticking a huge tax on oil while the prices are low.  Then the next time oil goes up they sure don't take the tax off.

Pfft. No, you're not. Cheap oil plunged Canada into a recession.

How is that "good for everybody"?

Evidently, you're going to double down, no matter how wrong you are.
And you're very, very wrong.

 Not everyone.

But a tax wouldn't help the problems they were whining about.  It would raise prices without a benefit to the oil industry workers.

No.  Not everyone.  For SOME people and sectors of the economy, low gas prices are great.

For others, they are not.

Yeah.  Taxes are a useless waste.  the government needs to spend less, not tax more.

 $30 vs $40 ... not much of a difference.

$30 vs $100+ ... big difference.

There does come a point at which, unless one makes REALLY good money, that the price of a tank of gas can be life altering. Companies don't pay more just because it costs more at the pump. And yea, for us, when it was costing us $100+ to fill up, we relied on cheap and crappy food.

There are industries that suffer from high gas prices and industries that suffer from low gases prices.  Consumers, however, usually suffer from high costs because everything goes up, from milk to laundry detergent to postage.

The price of milk is tied very closely to the price of oil. Milk prices are expected to put a lot of farms out of business this year.
We are under contract, and should be fine, (Yay for being organic!) but conventional farmers will not be so lucky.

This isn't about the price of oil though. This is a tax the government wants to impose and when things get better they will still have their hands on your wallet.
