They slip down like buttah.

It's the only donut I'll eat.  We used to live by one so I would get them hot and fresh.  Now we get them at the gas station that have been shipped in and sitting for hours.  Not the same.  Not the same at all.  I don't eat them now.

We had a few Krispy Kremes here, but they went out of business. Nobody liked them.

They were WAY too sweet.

That is true. But I am not a donut glutton either. One or two is heaven. After that bleck. When I was supervisor at work I used to get a bunch in the morning for my crew to motivate them.

We do have Dunkin Donuts and Tim Horton's, but with Krispy Kremes, you needed a shot of insulin just looking at them.

I like them fresh and hot or, as dad calls them, calypso doughnuts. You know dayo.

He thinks he's funny.

Anyway.

Before the store was built here, we had to go to Chattanooga to get them fresh.

But the Racetrack across from where I worked sold them.

If you paid attention, and you went over when the fresh doughnuts were being brought in, the driver would give any and all the leftovers to you for nothing.

So every now and then one of the employees would go over and come back with a dozen easy.

I'm just not a big donut fan to begin with.  I do have a fondness for Dunkin Donuts jelly donuts but that's only because when I was a kid and had my foot operated on my dad brought me donuts to the hospital.  To me they equate with comfort food.

The thought of donuts sounds good, but I always feel sick after eating them so I stay away.

If I run, or even walk, 2.5 miles I don't want a Krispy Kreme (much less a dozen!) - I want a sandwich!

But yeah, the Krispy Kremes didn't have anything to do with this man's heart attack. He could have nad the same reaction to running that first mile if this had been any other run because he hadn't gotten to the doughnuts yet.

Have you ever had Polish ponchiki/paczki?

Polish jelly doughnuts. OMG!

They're usually filled with plum or apricot. Delicious!

That's the best kind.  When you watch it roll out of the glazer and get it.

They sell them here this time of year (before Lent, I assume...maybe through Easter?).

I've seen them in grocery stores, but don't know how good they'd be.

Yes, they're usually sold around Easter in the grocery stores. The grocery store ones are OK.

We do have a Polish bakery close by which makes them year-round. You have to get there before 07h30, or they're all sold out.

No doughnut in the world is worth getting up that early for, even if it is hot out of the oven.

I can't say that I'm a fan of glazed doughnuts.

Give me a cheese Danish, please!

You don't even have to chew, they just dissolve in your mouth.
