 There comes a time when fighting is futile and a waste of what time you have left.  Not to mention the practical consequence of doing nothing but running up astronomical medical bills.

 Yes, because when you are 89 and spending six hours three days a week on dialysis that's NOT quality of life.  Those almost twenty hours a week could be spent with your children, grand children, and great grand children.
