THAT was my point...mocking a POSTER, not the death of a good man.

And while you're at it, can you translate this? Nobody knew what the hell you were talking about.

If it's the board I'm thinking of, some people were brave enough to say that, despite his views, they could NOT be happy that a man died.

Do you know the board I'm referring to?

And maybe I was responding directly to Lindley, to let her know that it IS possible to separate personal feelings from political beliefs.

Typos? I've never seen that word before.

As far as dragging things from thread to thread....I'm pretty sure it's not prohibited in the rules.

From other boards? Absolutely.

It was very clear what she meant from the context.

And no, it is not prohibited to drag up things from other threads.

It is also not prohibited to scratch your ass or pick your nose in public.

 Edited for quote tree failure.

Flan was responding  to me. That board had quite  a few posters cheering the fact that Scalia  was dead.  A few posters did say that they were sorry  he passed  even though they didn't  agree with his views. Flan said that was brave of them since they held a different  view as the majority.

And I see the point.

How much courage does it take to sit behind a screen and disagree.

That isn't brave.

That's just disagreeing.

Brave can apply to a lot of things. Throwing youself in front of a bullet for example. Sitting in your jammies behind your keyboard with a phony avatar and screen name aint brave. There is nothing brave about that whatsoever.

Well. Brave means a lot of different things I guess.

But if you post it, it is free and open to any and all responses.

I'm sure they can be.

But the question of it being brave to contradict on a board where no one knows you is valid in my opinion.

Then why stay there?

If you can't feel comfortable behind a privacy fence with no way of identifying you, then why stay?

Now I'm not trying to be snarky.

I'm trying to understand.

Many people here know the other board.

Falling out of lockstep with the majority is not easy to do.

Words DO have power.

I know people say "it's not unusual for a 79 year old to die", but how old are they? My parents are approaching 78 and they seem very young to me, and are in excellent health. So was Scalia, from what I've heard. So yeah, it is unusual for a healthy 79 year old to die in his sleep, IMO. But I suppose the older I get, the younger 70's look to me.

Well, it is a big joke in my house because I was telling everyone I was 48.  I don't know why.  Then I went to the doctor and she asked me how old I was.  I told her 48.  She looked at me and said, "Mrs. NJN were you born on 1-11-66?"  I said, "Sure was."  She said, "According to my math you're going to be 50 next month!"  So I lost a whole year of my life.  No idea how that happened.

I was sad to hear of Justice Scalia's passing. I do hope that Obama can nominate someone that the Senate can confirm. I'd hate to see who the winner of this coming election nominates, mostly because all of the candidates from the two major parties scare the crap out of me.

Oh, for certain he absolutely does. But, the old saying "better the devil you know than the one you don't" comes into play here. Plus, for Obama to get a nomination approved by the Senate it would have to be a "Moderate". The upcoming President would be under no such limitation.
