I kinda think I'd like to. Before it turns into a tourist trap.
It is beautiful.

After much though, I think I'd have to wait until after my father passed. He fought during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I would feel as though it were a slap in the face. But I'd probably talk to him first to see what his reaction was. If he didn't care, then I'd go. But I do know that he was upset when O lifted the ban, as though what he fought for was for nil.
I would haves loved to with my grandma. It would have been awesome to see where she grew up and lived. She passed a few years ago and now it doesn't hold a lot of appeal. Except the food. I would go for the food. Of course we have good Cuban food here and in LA. Miami I bet is such as good as eating it in Cuba. The BF would probably love to go to smoke cigars.

You don't go to Cuba for the food. It's not like American-Cuban food.
It's hearty peasant food, with lots of chicken, fish and pork. Some people complain about it, but you don't go there and expect a foodie paradise.

Yes, I would go in a second. A good chance to see some parts of the 60's frozen in time (I am thinking of the cars). And I am guessing the food is probably delicious...
Hmmmm..... maybe my parents should go for their second honeymoon.....

My parents had been planning on going years ago. It was a group tour and they were flying from Miami to Mexico to get there since Americans couldn't fly to Cuba from the US at that time. They had to cancel their plans because my mother got sick and never was well enough to travel after that. I'd like to go as a tribute to my parents.

I'd like to go to Germany in Honor of my grandfather.
He served in the army in medivac and spent a great deal of time in Germany.
He always said he wanted to go back and see it after the ugly was gone.

The food I grew up eating? Black beans and rice with lots of pork. Pretty sure I know what to expect. Yes simple and though some say bland it is very much comfort food to me?

I will probably never go. My grandparents left a luxurious life there to come to the US. Grandma was always very wistful about her life there. She loved her country, but not what it had become. It would be nice if the ever gave the families what they left behind. She was especially unhappy of the thought that someone was using her China.

That is so sad.

All four of my grandparents left Russia in the early 1900's to escape religious persecution.
Jews in small towns were subject to raids by the Czar's troops. During these "Pogroms" some of the men were hanged, women and children raped and beaten,
crops burned, cattle slaughtered.

My father was stationed in Japan before I was born. When I sat in the Peace Park in Hiroshima, I called him. I asked him if he had ever been to Hiroshima. He sighed and said he flew over it once on the way to some place else. He said there wasn't much there to see. Then it brought home the reality that the bombings hadn't really occurred all that long ago. And it dawned on me why this city looked so different from the other ones I visited in Japan. It was new.
I would love to visit Cuba. If money ever permitted, I'd love to visit every country. Granted, doing that would not be safe since women are still considered property in some countries. Never mind that my mouth would get me shot or worse.

From watching The Amazing Race, I know that there are a few countries that you could not pay me to visit.

Cossacks.
My people.
Sorry about that.
I suspect that you have never attacked a Jew in your life.
And that if you saw someone harassing someone dressed as an "Orthodox" Jew, you would probably tell them to stop, as I would.

There are a lot of countries I have no desire whatsoever to visit.

Ditto--but Cuba may not be on that list.

Of course! I even married a Jew.
That being said, I come from a long line of Cossacks, and they weren't very kind to Jews.
I refuse to feel guilty for what my ancestors did.

The Cubans of today are NOTHING like the Cubans of the Pre Castro years. there are some other Caribbean islands that scored the original tobacco seada and cigar makers.
I have ALWAYS been disappointed when I get cubans, no matter the brand, the cost or where I purchase them.

Best cigar I ever had was hand rolled in a little store in a very small humidor room in Gatlinburg, Tn.
The second best was from a place in Kentucky. Don't even remember the store.
Both stores smelled amazing and tobacco was delicious.
