Democrats - Please Explain

For the Democrats on the board, could please explain how you can on one hand support raising the Minimum wage.  But, then on the other hand, support this massive influx of illegals to "do the jobs Americans won't do" at substandard wages.  And, how do you figure that an this influx of low skilled workers will somehow HELP the working poor Americans?

Serious question.

It can't be explained. Well not in any way that makes sense...

Democratic politicians don't actually care about the people - they care about getting a larger population that is dependent on them in order to maintain control of the government. Raise the minimum wage, costs go up everywhere, there are MORE working poor dependent on government handouts, and the influx of illegal immigrants who will work for less under the table will increase. Then, introduce a bill to legalize those illegal immigrants, and win yourself a larger voting pool.

Well.... I wouldn't consider my self a true democrat, just more of a liberal. I am pretty disgusted by both parties these days...sigh..

But...They don't have a plan and its horrible.

All I hear is Politicians being Politicians.

I don't support the huge increase in the minimum wage,

and I don't support allowing in huge numbers of potential terrorists without adequately vetting them.

The last time I remember voting FOR someone is was Jimmy Carter, because I wanted an honest person in office.

Other than that, it's always come down to voting AGAINST the worse or worst ones.

Because some anonymous person on a piddling message board can solve the country's problems?

Good luck with that.

You don't vote in the primaries?

I'm a registered Democrat so I can vote in their primaries.  But I make my final selection based on who I like.

How often do you find someone you like? I don't find very many who I think are not crooked or stupid.

I thought I did answer your question.

Perhaps you should ask it in a way that it can be answered.

(I've said that at least 50 times in depositions.)

In TN, you dont have to be registered to a party to vote. You walk in and tell them which ballot you want...

You got me Bonny. I was trying to post & my mind was elsewhere.

If DH nags me (or I feel it's important) then I do vote in the primaries.

 LOL!

Voting for someone just because you like them is not the right criteria.

Wow! I didn't know anyone needed permission to vote...

And honesty is a pretty good criteria, imo.

Honesty is a good virtue, and very important.  I don't want to vote for a dishonest person.  But basing a vote solely on who you like because of one virtue gets you a nice man who knows nothing about being President.

I like a lot of good, honest, people.  There are very few I think would make a good President.

Well, now that was foolish.  Quite possibly the worst president of the 20th century--said century which included the likes of Woodrow Wilson and Warren Harding.

When Carter ran the first time against Ford my husband just turned 18 and his Church encouraged the congregation to vote for Carter because he was a southern Baptist too. He didn't make the same mistake again at the next election.

No.  Here we have the benefit of hindsight.  Carter was very bad for this nation by almost any objective measure.  That is a FACT.

Carter was/is a good man.

He wasn't presidential material.

He would have been good in a lower office.

But he pales in comparison to our current president.

The joke we have now is, without a doubt, the WORST president ever.

Well, if he'd sent one more helicopter ...

of if the Iranians didn't already have a secret deal under the table with Reagan's people ....

trained with the man who commanded that mission--tragic--a lot of things went wrong beyond the control of the team--talking with him many years later about carter, he said that as a president, carter was overmatched for many aspects of the office but as a c in c, carter was clear: " bring our people home."

agree for sure--his domestic management/policies were ridiculous--if anything, regarded him as an honest man overwhelmed by the scope of the presidency--he seemed to just flounder his way through

Well my answer to the OP is, I am for the increase in minimum wage but I am NOT for immigration. I don't think that flooding the market with cheap labor helps the economy. I think it hurts it. A lot. Yes there are some jobs that Americans won't do - for the pay offered. If the pay went up, Americans would do those jobs. Bringing in immigrants to do those jobs suppresses wage growth. And when wages are suppressed, people don't spend as much.
