Some people are so uniformed on this issue it's astonishing. And since they think they know everything there's no point in telling them they live in a fantasy land.
The fantasy is to think that some dude in jail is going to pay support.
Is it a fantasy to think that if they CAN pay, if they HAVE the money, they will pay to stay out of jail?
Maybe some--and jail is a threat, apparently.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
"Jail" might be more of a deterrent if it was really a hardship - instead of three hots and a cot.
Jail should have NO TV, NO internet, NO phone, NO conjugal visits, NO a/c in the summer, and minimal heat in the winter. Jail today is almost like a country club. OK - no pork to observant Jews or Muslims, no dairy for those lactose intolerant, and no gluten for those with ciliac disease - other than that, bare bones meals. If you want extras, you have to WORK for them, or have family members PAY for them.

I could agree with that--except for having the family buy the extras. Rich people in jail should be miserable just like everyone else.
