She asked nicely, and it's one thread. It's not going to affect the rules on any other thread. And I like the idea of a sanctuary from snark and nastiness.
What's the matter, don't think you can comply? Then my very friendly advice to you is to stay off the thread. It shouldn't be hard, there are many others and you are free to start new ones.
And it's not up for further discussion because....well...no nastiness, remember?
Also - that's why it is called a CHALLENGE. If you join, you win or lose and the stakes are high. But nobody is forced to play, you can decline by not posting.

We have threads like that. The Daily thread. Cooking thread. Word games and on and on. People get on political or abortion threads then complain yhat they are "contentious".
There have been nastiness on those, but mostly they are nice.

Ordered my beekeeping equipment today. By April I'll be a real official beekeeper. I've been wanting to do it for so long and now I have the space and the time. I'm excited and I hope I don't end up killing them all but I've taken several courses and I have a nearby neighbor who has been doing it for years and will mentor me. After I'm comfortable with the bees I'll get my chickens.

Thank you for doing this. There is a real bee crisis right now and they need all the love they can get.

let's have a thread that no one can post anything nasty about anyone and no passive aggressive behavior. The challenge is, if you violate the rule you are banned for ever from this board. Is that allowed, Admins?
No. Who gets to decide what is proper behavior? How do you know before you do it? Who gets to decide what "nasty" is?
Ridiculous ambiguity.

"Mean" is usually in the eye of the beholder. And, "mean" usually means disagreeing and not Hip hooraying and High fiving every opinion.

Then neither of you need to be on the thread. If you don't understand what it means to be nice vs. be mean, this is obviously not the thread for you.

I'm starting with one hive, about 2000 bees by fall. You buy a queen with a few workers (a nuc) and will fill the hive if I don't kill them. If they do well I'll start a second hive next spring. I can't wait to have my very own honey. Honey is flavored by what they get the pollen from. I'll put the hive near my hedge of honeysuckle so hopefully it will be a mild flowery flavor.

I think beekeeping would be cool. I don't think my property is big enough to do it.
You don't need a lot of room. There are many beekeepers in the heart of cities. It's more about your neighbors because some people get freaked out by bees.

There are many ways to make sure the bees won't bother anyone but people see the bees and think they will be a nuisance even though a responsible keeper will do it correctly.

Interesting. Can the hives survive the cold weather of the north? How high maintenance are these hives? I hate yellow jackets and wasps, etc. But the honey bee is totally different.

Yes. The hives are built to survive very cold weather. Maintenance is very minimal mostly making sure they always have food (sugar water in a big jar). A honey bee will only sting you to protect the hive. If you don't threaten the queen they will not sting you.

Is there any other benefit? Do they protect against any other pests?

So my post was "mean"??? How so? Are the rules of the board changing, if so, what are the new ones? Are there certain threads that have different rules? Have those rules been posted SPECIFICALLY?
Further, are those who are not mods now able to make their own rules for any particular thread they might start?

Husker - let me repeat. This is NOT up for further discussion. You queries have been responded to, you just don't like the answers. If you can't handle one thread where you don't get to be your wonderful argumentative self, GET OFF THE THREAD and STAY OFF.

No, they have not. Do people who start threads get to set up separate rules for those threads? Are those now enforceable by the mods? Those are legitimate questions. They have not been answered.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
And let's understand something about the rules - TROLLING is against the rules. What is trolling? Basically posting just to start a fight.
Further excerpts from the rules:
If you are speaking in good faith, in a civil manner, you can express almost any opinion (other than hateful ones like racism). Even as I may disagree, if you are being civil then I will have your back.
Moderators - Challenging the disciplinary actions of moderators on the board will not be tolerated. Asking questions is always acceptable, but there is a difference between asking questions and attacking a moderator for their decision. The use of this site constitutes agreement to accept the moderation.
So if I decide that I am going to allow a nasty free thread - that is all there is to it. Not up for discussion, not up for debate. Don't like it - too bad. Quite frankly - the civility required on this thread is pretty much how all threads should be, but allowing a haven from certain poster's nastiness? I CAN, and I WILL.
Any further comments, complaints or other negativity regarding my allowance of a flame-free, nasty-free, happy only thread will be viewed as challenging a moderation decision. Capice?

How have I not asked in a civil manner? What have I said that was "un-civil"? Where have I "attacked" anyone?
You are being argumentative after I have already answered. I said it's ONE THREAD. I said it does not affect the rules on any other thread. I even said it was not up for discussion - which means you've gone past questioning and into challenging territory.
And I have said quite clearly, if you don't like it - you don't have to post on this thread. It is very, very, very simple.
And don't consider this thread a "new" rule. Consider it a thread where the rules will be STRICTLY ENFORCED to the highest levels of civility and decorum.
You have now taken "asking" to a level beyond the necessary.

A flock of flirting flamingos is pure, passionate, pink pandemonium-a frenetic flamingle-mangle-a discordant discotheque of delirious dancing, flamboyant feathers, and flamingo lingo.
Do people who start threads get to set up separate rules for those threads? Are those now enforceable by the mods? Those are legitimate questions. They have not been answered.
Yes, a Moderator has an absolute right to do this. Yes, they are enforceable by the mods. Your questions HAVE been answered.

Czech, I saw a picture the other day where this lady made a quilt out of her dad's shirts and ties. I know you did this with your dad's shirt but each square of the quilt I saw actually looked like a shirt and a tie. It was neat. I wish I had kept the picture.

There are numerous quilting sites with patterns and yes, I have seen that pattern. Dad didn't wear ties, so that wasn't a problem. We did incorporate his handkerchiefs into the quilt.
My sister actually created the pattern for all our quilts. We argued math so many times!!! Gosh, sis, think standard math not metric. Oh how we laughed.
