Jesse just left to take the SAT.

Kind of excited for him.

Kind of nervous for him.

Fingers crossed.

Say a little pray.

He will be fine. So they still start those tests at 8 am?

It said he had to be in his seat, ready to begin at 7:45.

So, I guess so.

What are you nervous about? What is his intended major and college choice? Did he do any SAT prep?

I want DD to do a prep course when it is her turn.  Is it worth it to pay one of the private tutoring places that offer SAT prep?  What are the options?

I think it depends on how competitive the major is. For my oldest son, he didn't do so hot, and I did hire a private tutor for both of my sons. But, my oldest son still had NO trouble getting accepted to his 2 yr schools. On the other hand, my younger son wants to do engineering. So, i had him do a prep course and he did pretty well on the SAT. But, i signed him up for the ACT as well. However, before he even took the ACT, he got accepted at Penn State and he didn't even really need to take the ACT but it was paid for and i said, you might as well take it cuz who knows?

Because I am. I'm not biting my nails nervous. I'm a mom. I worry.

He wants to major in linguistics/languages. The goal is to translate at the UN someday. He wants to teach.

Yes. He prepped. He took the PSAT last year on a whim. He scored in the top 5%.

I'll say a prayer but I don't think he'll need it. It's more for you because as a mom I find we worry more for them than we do ourselves. I bet he'll do great and then you'll have to come back and brag to us. Go Jesse!

My plan was to go to 2-year college and then transfer, so I wasn't under any pressure. WHen I took mine, I had been out all night with my BFF and saw things that confused us. So we both tested under a fog. Couldn't tell you what my scores were, as I didn't really care.

Now for my LSAT, I took a prep course. The cheapest course I could find. The test was given on campus at one of the Claremont colleges. My brother graduated from one, so I figured I'd take it there for luck. Scored in the top 30%.

Praying for your son, Lily! Think good thoughts!

Cool. I know several translators and an interpreter for the UN. Lida loves her job and travels a lot.

Which languages does he speak?

Are there other geeky kids taking the test this morning? I don't remember seeing it if there are.

Prayer and best wishes to them too.

I haven't heard anything from him. I figure there is another hour to go.

 German, Spanish and some Russian.

He is going to start with sign this Summer.

Oh, and he is learning Japanese.

Maybe you can bring him on board and I'll speak Russian to him. Keep him from getting rusty.

Did he take these languages in high school?

With languages, it's "use it or lose it."

He learned German and Spanish in school. A classroom.

His teacher has helped him with Japanese on the side.

He has taught himself Russian but the same teacher has helped him find sources and when he has had trouble.

He gets a lot of practice with Spanish, between friends and people in the community.

When the Volkswagen factory was being planned for not far from here, I told him he should learn Germany. We have been having more and more German speakers moving into our area.

All three of my kids speak multiple languages.

They get to talking and switching back and forth and it gets pretty comical.

Now we wait for the results.

Honestly getting into college has to do with the ability to pay tuition.

Wow. Kind of late to be taking the test for the first time. Deposits for college are typically due March 1. Application deadlines have passed long ago  I hope he has applied and just needs to take the tests to get accepted?!

I hope he does well!

He is using a VR rep to help things along.

It's a local State College he is applying to.

There are slots saved for him and those like him.

Yeah.

He has had some awesome counselors. And he meets all the criteria they look for in these types of cases.

We have to go to Atlanta this Summer for a 3 day assessment of his abilities and disabilities.

I wasnt sure which son was which and I didn't want to be rude and ask if he was the one who had some disabilities. I am glad he is working with some people who will be able to help find him the right fit. That's important for any kid going to college. When it's right, you will both know. It will feel right.

They give the kids login info and they can login and get their results now. No more mailings to the house. I think it took DD 3 weeks to get her results.

Try and log on at odd times of the day when everyone and their brother isn't doing it too. I know that's hard, but it's when it works best. If you do it right after school, at dinner time, etc when every other person on the planet is trying to, it is really hard to get in.
