I love my Toyota Rav4. It's not a huge SUV compared to some others. It's perfect for short me but, it is quite spacious for back seat passengers. I bought it slightly used so I was able to get a model with upgraded features without spending a fortune.

I've never leased. Some people do it regularly. I guess it's cool getting a new car every three years. You just have to be careful about the terms like how many miles you put on it.
What about leasing? Seems like they have worked out a lot of bugs and there is a pretty standard leasing contract now.
I would not lease a car. Aside from having to pay for mileage over the contract allowance, you have to return the vehicle in pristine condition so those "dings" you would over look with a car you own would have to be fixed before you can return the car.

Plus, when leasing you will never be free of a car payment.
Well, i could try it for 3 yrs then buy if i don't like that. And, anyway, at this point in life i am thinking i could lease and it would be half the car payment to purchase and i have a son going to college next year so that would free up some money.

Well you have to put a fairly large chunk of cash down when you lease.

Yeah, like $3K. I would be putting that down to buy a car as well.

My point really is your cash flow may be less but you still have to put down that chunk. So the down payment takes away from that cash for college.

Well, the larger car payment will take away cash flow too. So, either way i would be putting that chunk down or even more if buy. And, even with that the monthly payments will be higher at a time when i might like them to be lower.
