Or stay put as planned and wait for him to feel better.
He didn't feel better for a week. I had to work the next morning.
Again, so what? Everyone I know has an automatic, soo......
Just because everyone YOU know has an automatic, doesn't mean he had an automatic.
Just because everyone YOU know has an automatic, doesn't mean my son has an automatic, and I've had to borrow his car in pinch.
You seem to be under the impression that you should be forced to learn to drive a stick.
Learn, don't learn.....I don't care.
I'm just saying how it's a skill that came in handy FOR ME.
Just becasue YOU need to drive a stick ONE time in YOUR life, doesn't mean that everyone else does as well. Just because it came in handy for YOU doesn't make it critical lifesaving skill for anyone else. And, if you "don't care', then why do you keep going on and on and on about it?
So. You'd be ok with your kid sitting in a rest area 4 hours away till you got there instead of just driving on to the hotel that is an hour up the road?
Look. If a person doesn't think it's important, fine.
I think it is.
I want my kids as prepared as possible.
Learning to drive a stick, fire a weapon, read a map. I think they are important skills to have.
I don't want my kid to drive another kid's car. Not sure what is so unusual about that? If there is some kind of issue, then i would want them to call me. I really don't see this as some life or death emergency skill. If you do, then fine but it's much ado about nothing in my opinion. I don't think my kids are "less prepared" to survive in the wild as yours are. I am sure that my kids also have some skills your kids don't and vice versa.
Do you ever see your kids being farther than 30 minutes away from you? Cause mine are at times.
Caitlyn was with my mom about 3 years ago, her sugar dropped and she had to drive home.
I've been out with the kids, and needed one to drive me home.
I have an automatic now.
But mom had a stick.

Again...nobody is saying you HAVE to learn this "critical lifesaving skill".
Learn, don't learn......I DON'T CARE if you know how.
Nobody NEEDS to know how to tie a shoelace either.
And you don't "read a manual" to learn to drive a stick.
It's something you have to do, not read, to learn.

I think the area you live in makes a difference. When I lived in Indy, I was the only person I knew (other than truck drivers) who owned a stick shift car. Most of the people I knew did not know how to drive one. And yes, most were surprised I knew how to drive one and some were impressed by it.
Around here, most people I know can drive a stick. And many of them own cars/trucks with manual transmissions.
There was a time I was out with friends. The person who had driven had too much to drink, so I drove home. Could I have called another friend or a cab? Sure, but I didn't have to.

I'm glad I learned.
Now I'm looking forward to reading, in a couple of months, that LGS was stranded because the only vehicle available had a stick shift, and she was the only sober driver.
So she called a cab, it took the cab 2 hours to get to her and cab fare was $65.
Wait for it .............
