I'd have to say riding roller coasters, or going to the water park were probably the best memories of childhood. Christmases were always good & just going to the pool every day during summer break was fun.
You miss the point that you don't get to tell others what they should or should have considered "fun".
You, Dona, and others are doing EXACTLY that.
No, we're not. So you had fun - we just don't agree that was fun. We have the right to state that opinion. You are the one saying it is integral to a fun childhood when it is not.
I'm sure you like football. I'd rather clean my bathroom than sit and watch it. What is fun is an OPINION.
You are making the blanket statement that it is fun, and heavily implying that without those experiences, a childhood is subpar. Nope, not agreeing here.
None of those things contributed to the amount of fun I had growing up in the slightest. I had fun, but in other ways.
You stated exactly the opposite, that if anyone did have fun doing it, their childhood must have been subpar.
No, she didn't. She said if that was the experience that defined your childhood, then it needed to be re-evaluated. Was riding in the back of a pick up truck the funnest thing you did as a kid? If so, you have my pity.
No, but it was fun--and yes she did. That is exactly what she said.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
If riding in the back of a pickup was the highlight of your youth, you need to reevaluate your childhood. Sure, I did lots of dangerous things. Still do. Riding in the back of the truck is usually less fun than riding in the cab. Hair blows in your face, your butt gets sore, and bugs fly into your eyes. Drinking water out of a hose usually means you are thirsty. It is not very fun. Driving tractors is monotonous. Riding without seatbelts is no different of an experience than riding with them. And riding on anything pulled by a tractor was slow, and usually meant that hard work was imminent. Not fun. I had more fun building elaborate swings from the rafters in the hay barn, training cows to ride out to pasture on, building hay forts, and teaching my pet rooster to do tricks.
Oh ok. You are gonna mock that but training a cow is somehow better? Oh ok.
You are the one making it sound like todays youth are missing out if they don't rattle around the back of a pickup swallowing bugs and bruising their butts. If my kids never ride a cow, they will probably have fun in other ways.
Kids still will find something dangerous to do for fun. My son and his friends use to tie a plastic trash can to the back of a pick up truck and one would drive the truck while the kid will ride the trash can through the snow.
