The difference is edibility on the go.  You need a peeler and a knife to peel and slice an apple.  You need neither to peel and section an orange.  It is perfectly portable and edible with no help.

But you dont have to do either. Apple peels are edible and you can easily eat an apple one handed...

That's the other thing, it's not even sectioned.  If I am going to buy a pre peeled orange it's better be sectioned.  Otherwise my hands still will get sticky pulling the sections apart.

Well, our local store has been selling all their organic produce dirt cheap! Pun intended. The day it is at the sell buy date they are practically giving it away. I got three packages of organic mushrooms for 59 cents and a huge container of organic spinach for a buck.

Because at the sell by date, they are no longer fresh.

Don't get me wrong, I don't go by sell by dates very much.

Just saying.

 That's what I thought too.

A lot of people don't want to eat the peel.  And it still needs to be washed, even if you do.

I agree. They do make re-usable cups, though, but it's all about convenience to most consumers.

When we went to the coffee plantation on Kauai, an employee said that they refused to manufacture Keurig cups until they could make a totally degradable one.

Also, if you go to many stores there, you need to bring your own bag. I love that.

How hard is it to make coffee? I have a 4 cup Mr. Coffee that was like $20 instead of $99. And, i make myself exactly the amount of coffee i want. It even has a timer. And yeah, some of you will say you have the reusuable filter, but if you are out and about, a lot of establishments now have them and they still have the plastic cups. Like car dealers and hair dressers and other places where they give you coffee.

How hard is it to do anything? Yeah a lot of things people do now are born out of convenience. Premade, prepared, prepackaged, precooked, chopped, frozen, whatever. It is all meant to appeal to our laziness. And, I am not so sure what is wrong with that? How hard is it to wash your own dishes? Why have a dishwasher? How hard is it to do anything. It's silly to get up in arms over a peeled and orange and pretend that you personally are not doing tons of things in your own life for convenience.

We have a keurig Vue.  It uses Vue cups instead of K cups and they are recyclable.  It's one of the reasons we bought it instead of the regular Kuerig.

Yes, we do like our conveniences. We take short cuts when we can.

It's just funny to me.

I've long said we will convenience ourselves to death.

Convenience has freed us up to have modern society. If we spent all of our time hunting, chopping firewood and washing our clothes on rocks in the creek, then not much else would be happening. Not sure how convenience is such a terrible thing?

I love that, too. So many people bring their own bags here, that's they're going to make plastic grocery bags illegal throughout the island of Montreal.

The "plastic" biodegradable bags made of cornstarch will still be OK.

They tried that here.  Um no.  Aint happening...

Do these stores sell bottled water?  That's much worse than plastic bags...

The stores should all just start charging for the bags. That would encourage people to use the reusable ones.

Although, I intentionally don't do so at Target. Target has wonderful bags and I re-use them to clean out the litter boxes. They don't tear easily like the others.

Not in 99.99% of the places in the US.  Lib Utopia like SF and a couple other places, but for the most part, it's a convenience for the customer...

The ONLY store that I shop in that charges for bags is Aldi. That's it. Everyone else still just bags your purchases as normal.

And I shop a LOT.

I like when I buy a single item or just a few Walgreens always asks if I want a bag instead of just bagging it. I always say no. Today I went to Giant & bought a 1/2 LB tub of chicken salad & grabbed a hair dye while I was there. The guy bagged them before I could say no thanks just the receipt please.

We have reusable bags.

They're great for all kinds of things.

But there is a problem with people not cleaning their bags after using them.

Coliform and E.coli are in just about every bag after one use and then spread when they are set on other things.

There are a few places here you can still choose paper bags.

I like paper bags.

We have a couple stores here that give you a nickel off for bringing your own bags. If you bring ten bags you get fifty cents off. Not much but every little bit helps. The only problem I have with reusable bags is sanitation. Some people put drippy meat or milk in them and don't wash them out. We love the Target bags too. They're strong and can be used for other things. Most of the plastic bags are so cheap.

We actually reuse most of our plastic grocery bags. They are perfect for liners in bathroom cans. When we go to the lake house, we use them to transport groceries and other stuff, then use them for garbage bags. We give most of them to my boss though. His wife likes to shop at the ONE PLACE that does not have bags, so we give them to them and she uses them to do her shopping...

Our liquor stores (the SAQ) won't give you a bag. They banned them in 2008.

Yeah, those too.  Ours have drawstrings, so I tend to use them for other stuff (especially since, for now, I have to get around on a scooter!).  I can't really handle a purse...

Wow.  Do they let you use their boxes if you buy a lot.  Here they'll box it for you if you are buying for a big party.  They also give them to you if you ask.

Bring your own bag. Put it in your purse or the trunk of your car. It hasn't hurt liquor sales a bit.

I never bought a lot. I have a bottle of rum from two Christmases ago.

I imagine they'll be more than happy to give you a box.
