Okay, in the last 6 months I lost 50 pounds and 10 inches off my waist.
Good thing, right?
I've had my suit pants taken in, but then kept losing inches. They're falling off me again.
I have a couple of wonderful "ratchet" belts, but it still looks a little funny with the pants waist bunching up when I tighten the belt enough to keep my pants up.
Soooo
I bought some black suspenders.
Now I still have the belt through the belt loops, ( suit pants and jeans ), but the belt doesn't have to be so tight,
because the suspenders keep my pants up.
Spouse is hinting that belt plus suspenders looks a little strange.
I'm thinking about getting the white suspenders the store had, to wear with a white shirt and tie, suit pants and jacket.
But, will anyone even see the suspenders? And if so, will anyone think I'm even more weird?
Spouse told me to stop wearing the jeans that actually stay up by themselves, and switch to the ones I got one size (2 inches) larger,
But they fall down if / when I loosen the belt.
Do you know any guys wearing suspenders?
I wonder if anyone who notices would even care.

I used to wear suspenders awhile back.I was and still am quite slim, and sometimes it was difficult to find pants that would fit well while wearing a belt.
I will tell you that wearing a belt and suspenders is not a fashion statement you want to make.Either use a belt alone or suspenders alone.Otherwise it just looks ridiculous and people will surely comment on it, if not to your face, then behind your back.
Please take the advice of other Geeks and visit a thrift store for slacks. You would be surprised at the selection, and some new items with tags still attached which were never worn. You will spend a lot less on slacks while you continue to lose weight.I shop at thrift stores when I need clothing I cannot find at a regular store (for ie., Sears). They are not only for the “poor” and folks on “welfare”.
If you are so concerned about people seeing the suspenders or people knowing you are wearing them, I will tell you that most people really could care less. If you don't mention it or draw attention to it, people will not focus on it.
See, it is not all about you, no matter how much you think it is.If you are wearing a suit jacket, then not a problem. If you choose to not wear a suit jacket, putting your suspenders on full display, then that is your choice. The more attention you pay to what you are wearing or fuss you make about wearing suspenders, the more people will notice.
Just wear the suspenders and go about your normal life.Act like you are not even wearing them. And if you are so concerned about what people think, then perhaps suspenders are not the fashion choice for you.If you can find a smaller size slacks at a reasonable price, you will not need to wear suspenders, just a belt. But hey, do whatever you want.Insecurity about one’s appearance is not something I let be a part of my life.

If you can't find pants at a thrift store to you liking, consider buying some online from Amazon, or various other outlets. You can order a whole bunch of stuff and try them on at home and then ship back what you don't like.

My jeans come from Haband, $20. They have elastic on the sides of the waist.

first of all, they're braces not suspenders--suspenders clip on to the waistline of your slacks, braces attach with buttons on the interior side of the waistline
second, you never wear a belt AND braces together--looks like some damned harness
braces are elegant--have them for all of my suits--as far as alterations, if it's a nice, quality suit to begin with, you're better off altering the slacks than trying to match/replace them
