TOPIC: Baseball star, 36, walks away from $13MILLION and retires because the Sox said his son, 14, had to stop hanging around
The kid was doing drills and with the team all the time. This guy has issues trying to turn his son into his MiniMe. No, he had no business doing drills with the team who is trying to conduct business. I would think some of you would call out the entitlement mentality when you see it. The team isn't all about HIM or his VSS.
My husband said he wasn't playing good and he is just using that as a excuse. I don't think girls or women need to be in a men's locker room. I wouldn't want a man in a women's locker room either.

Then the team shouldn't have let his agent put it into his contract and he undoubtedly would have signed with someone else. That was THEIR CHOICE. They are wanting to change the terms after the fact.
Again, if you had an employment contract that stipulated that you had 3 weeks vacation, and then the company came back and said you could only take one week because they can't afford for you to be gone for 3 weeks--would you just say "well, sure"? BS. You'd be pissed.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.

That's some twisted illogic. He did not have a good season last year--so that's all the more reason for HIM to do what they want and collect his $13 mil for mediocre play.

We don't know what the contract said in particular. And, did he spell out that that the kid would literally participate in every drill, practice, moment? If he didn't spell that out, then that is up for interpretation on both sides. To me, he asked for a perk, and then did what a lot of people do, which is take something that is meant to be a courtesty and become totally obnoxious with it. Doesn't sound like he thinks much of his daughter that he has his son joined at his hip 24/7. Ya think he might have been able to bring her on some days and yeah dont' take her in the locker room. Sounds like he has some ego issues with his obsession with MiniMe. I guess the son isn't allowed to have his own life outside of baseball and must be a carbon copy of dad.

First of all, bringing up his daughter here is STUPID. She is not at all a part of this. So that is a NON-issue.
Second, the other players are backing him and directly saying that the management is lying, so it's very reasonable to assume that he is the one abiding by the terms of the contract--and the team's management is not.

It isn't a non issue. She isn't part of it because he choose to not make her part of it. I am sure he could have choosen to make time to have her their as well and didn't so obviously that isn't important to him.

So what? That's his choice. That has NOTHING to do with this situation. NOTHING.

Management doesnt' want his VSS there. They are running a business. It's their business, he's an employee. So too bad.
Then they shouldn't have offered and signed that contract.
Again, if you sign a contract that says you get three weeks vacation and they cut it to one--you'd be happy? You haven't answered that because you know you are full of crap and would expect an employer to abide by the terms of a contract they offered and signed.

And, yeah, managment probably didnt' expect to have some whacko bringing in his kid in EVERY day practicing and drilling as if he is an MLB player. Most reasonable people aren't going to expect anyone to do that. That is totally unreasonable.

It was just a opinion . . He is not a fan of the team so he doesn't really care. I just mentioned it to him and he just stated a off the cuff opinion.

Or just maaaybeeee
Son likes baseball more than daughter, and she had no interest in hanging around a sports field all day.
I can't imagine a worse for of daily boredom. I can't stand baseball, it is so dull.

Then they shouldn't have let his agent put it into the contract. Contracts need to be followed. You can't change them after the fact just because you no longer like the terms you agreed to.
again, you failed to answer the question.

I don't have a link, but during halftime of the MTSU Syracuse game yesterday, they were discussing this. They said that "sources say", that "every day" was not in the contract and that it read along the lines of "Son will have access to the clubhouse". The "expert" said that if every day was truly in his contract, then the team would be in breach and would either let the son in or have to pay the $13 million. The fact that he is not disputing anything speaks volumes...

It sounds like he is going to file a grievance with the players association. Its going to cost the club some $$, but a couple mil is less than thirteen, so it may be worth it to them.
