Do they know how to alternate the acetaminophen and ibuprofen?
Hope he feels better fast.
Is he teething?
This is the baby, right?
It's not recommended.
By whom?
I've had many, many doctors tell me to do this.
The kids regular pediatrician, the ENT, emergency room doctors, family physicians, specialist.
Thanks for chiming in though.

I just want my parents to go away. I don't mean anything menacing by that. It seems like no matter how far I distance myself from them they keep trying to drag me back into their world.
Sorry. Move to SC.
Change your number? Start speaking Mandarin?

Those are both good options I will keep in mind. Actually I will put them at the top of my list.

I've never had a doctor not recommend that. Did it with my kids, Dr told DD to do it with her kids. It standard practice here...
Although there are a multitude of ways in which acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be alternated, the most common method cited was to recommend giving acetaminophen every 4 hours and ibuprofen every 6 hours. However, Mayoral et al. noted that this regimen can be confusing to parents and can ultimately lead to double dosing. In addition, due to the pharmacokinetics of both ibuprofen and acetaminophen, combining the two medications in an alternating fashion may produce a synergistic effect on the kidneys and cause renal tubular toxicity
If it was more effective, they'd use that method on pediatric units, but they don't.
I remember people telling me to do that with DD8, but with DD1 my Dr. said not to for this reason.
Actually, new studies are coming out that show that excessive use of Tylenol is causing increased issues later in childhood. Not that I think Czech's grandson is getting overdosed, just a general thought. When my kids took baby Tylenol I didn't think twice about it. If they were babies now I would.

If you're talking about putting my parents in a home well, um, my dad is kind of in one.

I don't have time to check right now, but I thought I had read that.
If you're giving it to them constantly, yeah, I'd worry.

I need time to think of more...

I may go hide at SB's and cook for her. I wonder if they'll track me there? She can just tell everyone I'm her new European cook.

Not only that, but now it is not recommended to dose a fever unless the kid is really uncomfortable. Otherwise, let the fever do it's job.

Yes. Unless the child is very uncomfortable, let the body do what it was designed to do. It's febrile for a reason.

Well, excuuuuuse me! I thought I was being helpful. It could be damaging to the kidneys.
Give whatver you want to your kids. I don't care.
I've done my job and warned you.
Yeah. Excessive use could.
But for the duration of a typical fever, no.

:eyeroll: It was stated by both of us that if the kid is uncomfortable to give it. But there are many times kids get fevers that don't even slow them down, in those instances, it's advised to skip the meds.

I think a lot of parents were dosing their kid prophetically. They've just come out with new guidelines is all I know. I know aspirin was linked to Reyes back when I was a kid. I remember my mom throwing out all that Bayer baby aspirin. The pink stuff. That tasted so good!

Exactly. It depends on how high the fever is and how your child is acting.
Alright, two dozen eggs hard boiled and cooling and waiting for Friday.

I don't know what you are thinking by excessive use. Alternating meds is typically done during the duration of a typical fever. And yes, it can be bad for their kidneys. Each parent can decide for themselves if the benefit is worth the risk.

Before I could drive, I had to show I could change a tire, jump the car, knew how to check the fluids and fill them and could change the oil.
Dad said I couldn't go anywhere without that knowledge.
I did the same with my kids.

The reason many doctors say to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen is because they don't want you giving too much of one thing in a day. So you alternate drugs.
And aspirin is never an option for babies, not as long as I've been alive, let alone a parent.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
I'm really aggravated. I have so much that needs to get done at home right now. A lot of canning stuff. And getting ready for Easter. Yesterday I put off doing jelly so that I could run around and get stuff done and stay home today. SS calls at 6:15 tonight and says, "Dad, I need you and NJN to come to my school concert that starts in 15 minutes. You said you would come to the next one because you missed the last one." Yes, we did miss the last one because of this same issue. We live half an hour from his school. But DH insisted we drop everything and drive out to the concert. Half an hour there, fifteen minutes of music, and half an hour drive back. It's insane. I told SS no more. If he can't get it together enough to tell us the day ahead of time we won't go.

My get up and go has left without me. DH and I organized our storage yesterday. Got rid of 5 crates of stuff and sent at least 5 boxes to Goodwill. I could've sworn I had a pair of backless tennis shoes in one of the crates. Nope. Also could've sworn my blown glass collection was in one of the crates. Also a big fat nope. Oh well.
I had to laugh though. As we were purging stuff, we were putting old toys outside of our patio. We were planning on setting them near the dumpster so people could grab them if they wanted. Didn't need to. The kids happily carted every last item off. We had quite the gathering by the end of the day waiting for more toys to hit the pile. One of the boys that was coveting the large exercise ball I had noticed it was put out and whooped with joy when we said he could have it. I've never seen a ball disappear so fast! Some of the older kids helped DH and DS carry the trash to the dumpsters when we were done.
Kids are funny that way. And a big ball is awesome.
I had to take my heavy-duty pain pill again tonight. My knee is just not getting better.
May have to go to the doctor.
It's so bad, I'm having to use a crutch.
Can hardly put any weight on it.
This, too, shall pass. Right?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. The ANA endorsed Hillary. Her voice grates on my nerves.
